THE 185-game four-club career of Justin Murphy has finally come to an end.
Murphy has been told by Essendon that he is no longer required after two seasons at Windy Hill.
The 29-year-old was an unexpected success story last year, his first for the Bombers, but his form slipped badly in the second half of this season.
He was dropped for the final two games of the year and only managed 17 games.
Murphy started with Richmond in 1994 before moving to Carlton, Geelong, back to Carlton and then Essendon.
His axing comes after ruckman Matthew Allan announced his retirement last week.
Erratic forward Damian Cupido has been told his future will be decided after next week's trade period where he will be shopped around.
Full-forward Matthew Lloyd is expected to be announced as Essendon's new captain today, replacing long-time skipper James Hird.
One down - 5 or 6 to go.
And yay on the Lloyd captaincy. Does this mean we will never be able to complain to the umps again?
