why not have a thread that only posts legitimate reviews..... make it follow a formula...
pie analysis
opposition analysis
key pie players
key opposition
why pies win or lose

something like that to make people write more than one sentence. If someone posts a comment on the reviews it gets deleted...

I think he means starting a thread with only one sentence.

im talking about a thread where several people post a well thought out analysis of the game. Or at least try to do it. Like the guy who gets his stuff stuck on the magpies site. There must be at least half a dozen people who post on this site who are able to put a few paragraphs together. At the moment, you get a lot of people making posts where they say they think the pies are going to win or similar type stuff. I'd just like to see a thread where you can read posts which are well thought out. As for making a commitment to do something, if the guy running BF pays me an allowance, I'll think about it. At any rate, there are far more popular people that the regular punters would prefer to read. btw make sure that VFL guy comes back. I used to use his thread to find out about broadcast stuff etc very useful

i'm talking about comments like "i think the pies will bounce back this week. Grundy is due for a return to form and Cox normally likes to play the Tigers. And I had a crap this morning and it wasnt too solid and this usually means that the Pies win. Pies by 9 points"

Now his mates on here might love the post but it does nothing for me really.

I thought last years Preview threads were rather good, clearly more than one sentence, thoughts on how the game could be won or lost and guessing the margin. Then later on the teams as selected.

Doubt you would get paid, we Mods aren't.:D

If no-one puts up their hand, I can volunteer to alternate with you or maybe we can draw up a roster and have a number of posters do it like they do on the Carlton Board and others.

Here's one of the last preview threads. It was the first one that I found. After the preview post by boxer, it was mostly pubtalk one-liners. The problem is that the preview post gets swamped by the "discussion" that follows. At the end of the first page, you actually refer to an "analysis" thread. What I'm suggesting is to try to separate the posts where someone makes an effort to the one-liner pubtalk posts which can be put in another thread and which will sail off into oblivion after the game. I was just speculating that you might be able to find more people to write previews if they were put in a thread called "Preview and analysis of Next weeks game" and stuck at the top.

btw nice plan but i am extremely unreliable. Keep advertising and I'm sure you'll find someone who wants to take the reins

BoxMatrix did a great job last year (thank you:)), but I haven't seen him around lately. If you read this, are you still interested?

If anyone else is interested, let us know.

Yet another Great Poster we have Lost here Recently

IMO, there should only be one thread started by a mod. Begin as a preview thread, potential ins and outs.
Closer to game day, posters such as Box and Dave post their reviews.
Once the ball is bounced, the thread is game day comments.
After the final siren, it because the post game thread.

All posts in one location.

The practice of locking the preview and game day threads reduces the flow of conversation. It also allows some posters to get away with murder during the game.

Board standards need to lift.

I agree with what you wrote sir.
But where to start and finish?
We have a pre game thread
Next a game day thread
And then a post game thread

To me that's well balanced as all are relevant.
And gives a choice on what to read.
As to why the mods lock a thread I can only assume they wish the conversation to transfer to a related thread perhaps
I have no Idea
Maybe a mod will reply as to why they do this

I think that the Preview thread is speculation about ins and outs and starts after a game finishes, then maybe as teams area announced, we can continue that thread with the changes with a more detailed preview based on team selection. Alternatively, close that thread and start a new one.

I personally don't have an issue either way.

Closer to the game, a Game Day thread can be opened for discussion. That thread is closed after the game and the analysis thread is opened.

Most mods are at the games I think and I must admit, opening and closing threads and BF is the last thing I am thinking of.

The biggest problem is when the preview thread gets closed and the game day opened. Conversations just get cut off. I’d like to see it roll into the game day thread.

Yeah missing the matrix for this:

If I could nominate a few who seem to have a good knowledge of the game in the current landscape, who have a reasonable knowledge of the current opposition and would be apply that knowledge that the layman can understand. Would also add like the Box did.
