Injury thwarts Gardiner again

ST KILDA ruckman Michael Gardiner's career is in doubt after he succumbed to yet another hamstring injury in yesterday's VFL game for Sandringham against Collingwood at Victoria Park.
Gardiner came off late in the opening term and did not return for the rest of the match. Sandringham coach Brett Lovett said the 32-year-old would have scans tomorrow.
Gardiner has not played an AFL match since last year's drawn grand final against the Pies. ''He was just a bit tight in the hamstring and with all the issues that he's had, the doctors felt that it was best that we don't risk him. He'll have some scans this week,'' Lovett said.
''It would be quite frustrating for him. His form has been quite good and his body previous to this has been holding up quite well. Hopefully it's just a precautionary.''
In better news for the Saints, defender-turned-forward Tommy Walsh snared a career-high six goals in the Zebras' three-point win.
Lovett described it as tightness in the hamstring - so Michael is not necessarily injured but is now in serious doubt to play for the Saints this year - and one has to wonder if he has 2012 in him.
Certainly the prospect of the return of Gardiner, Gwilt and Hayes for the premiership defence (ha ha) in 2012 must give opposition clubs some concern.
