fox footy said gardiner has a hamstring injury, anyone know how bad looks like we have our share of injuries already

Yeah saw this on the news.

Frustrating but the season is still around 5 weeks out.

Lack of match practice might hurt for round 1 but we can only hope for the best.

And yes, we have our share of injuries, hopefully it's not going to be one of *those* injury years (ala 2001, god forbid.)

3 weeks, according to ch 9.

On one hand, I'm not fussed because I didn't see any good reason for him to play wizard cup anyway- on the other, he needs to build his fitness :( I hope this doesn't auger a season of similar niggles for him, because lets be honest, if we don't get a good year out of gardiner, we're right royally ****ed.

If Coxxy wanted to put up his hand, this wizard cup would be the ideal time for him to do that.

I am so glad that they kept Sux at the club.

Gardy is a little on the injury prone side and we need a good ruckman like Cox at the club to fill in as well as share the duties with Gardy. He also has shown his mettle for the past 2 seasons when he has done a fantstic job when Gardy has been injured.

Cox could always be first ruck for a number of AFL clubs, but with him with us at WC, we need him for the times when Gardy will breakdown.

I hope it's not going to be like the beginning of the 2002 season for Gardy, he was out for a number of matches.

But as well as Cox getting a run as the no.1 ruckman, it might be a good opportunity for Seaby to get a few AFL games under his belt, if he's to become another Gardiner.

Hopefully he can be alright for roud 1. If he is out for 3 weeks as reported then he could be back in training with still 2 or so weeks before Round 1. As long as he is there in round 1 all is sweet.

I like your thinking jod, most Hamstring injuries are only 2-4 weeks anyway(except Gassies which are about 8 weeks). As long as he is back for round 1 we will rule.

not good news at all, just cause you don't know what further effects this may have on him over the course of the season.

Considering the injury problems we've already had the last thing we can afford is Gardy breaking down - he is our game plan.

But i never really saw a reason for Gardiner to play in the Harry Potter Cup, and this will force us to play Cox as first ruck and give Seaby a run because we need to see how both will go having to lift their game a gear.

I still that the developement of Seaby over the course of this season and the next, and perhaps the one after, will determine whether we go from being a good team that's always up there but not quiet all there, to being a team that is a constant premiership threat.

This year we should bite the bullet and use Cox as our main ruckman and use gardner sparingly at CHF or FF.

Cox is a big muther and more than able to hold down ruck ALL YEAR. He seems to be very robust, unlike gardy who is susceptible.

Lucky we have both !!

the only good news on offer is that the season is still 5 weeks away and given gardiners history with injury he's goning to need all of those weeks to recover.

Only 2 weeks according to Whoosha.

WEST Coast coach John Worsfold believes Michael Gardiner will be available to play in two weeks after straining his left hamstring at training yesterday.

cotton wool time, I think. He needs to be well rested, even if it is at the cost of a bit of match fitness.

One of the few points of optimism that can be taken out of this is that Gardiner had a dramatically shortened preseason last year, and then went on to the best footy of his career.

Realistically though, I think we need to deal with the reality that Gardie is one of those guys who looks like he'll always be an injury prone player. That doesn't mean he won't have a wonderful career, but it does mean that we have to be a bit careful with him. Coxxy MUST step up this year, particularly in the first few months, because I think it'd be wise to use Gardiner as a forward for a while- I'd rather have him relatively fresh and capable of playing in the ruck at the business end of the season.

It will be interesting to see how much Cox has improved. We probably won't find out this week as the Pies ruck isn't exactly top shelf but it will be good to see him up against the top line rucks like Darcy. If Cox has taken the next step it opens up all sorts of possibilities for us.

Gardiner has a habit of missing more weeks from any injury than first expected as well.

That said, if Gaspar had a toothache he'd be out for the season, at least Gardy isn't that bad.

Hello, Mr Q. Hello eagle fans everywhere. I come in peace.

Since Gardiner was supposedly taking it easy at training, isn't it a worry that he'd do a hammy? Those injuries can sideline players for half a season or more. If I was an eagle fan (heaven forbid), I would be worried, I've seen hamstring injuries recurring a few times, and totally wrecking some player's seasons.

Bye Bye.
