the guy obviously doesn't have footy as a very high priority in his life if he cares about it all. If Gardiner was ever going to turn his career around and make footy his no.1 priority it would have been after he was suspended by West Coast earlier in the year. all this latest incident says to me is that he doesn't care about his football career and I don't think moving him interstate is going to change anything.

I'm starting to think that we even if we could get him for nothing in the PSD take a pass, the risk involved just isn't worth it.

At that price what is the risk? He stuffs up once and he is out door with a foot up the bum.

maybe we can get him on the first month to month contract ;)

If we got him PSD I would say go for it. But we won't. StK or Syd will get him in the trade period and expect him to carry them to a flag. The only reason they wouldn't go after him is if he decides to call it quits before that.

The influence that his presence could have on the playing group and some of the younger players. If the playing group don't really want him there (as Pebbles mentioned in this mornings paper) getting him could cause disharmony.

I suppose it's better then the mouth to mouth contract most collingwood footballers have with eddie:cool:

If that was the case then you would take that into account. In most instances if the coach says to the players this bloke wants a chance, he can help us if we help him and we want your input he will get a positive response. If his issues are deeper than publicly declared then all bets are off but based on what we do know for sure I think he could be of value so long as he understands he is under the pump and on a short leash.

I agree with Mark.

We've still got some serious surgery to do to the list and carrying him for a year would be no different to carrying one of our other dud talls. At least he can at times play AFL!

Depends on cost, his willingness to turn it around, the extent of his problems, body etc..

All I want is a real life ruckman! If Gardy can physically play ruck, MM thinks he can keep him under control and he comes fairly cheaply, I definately want him at the club. Good Bloke policies and sponsorships don't win flags. Talent does.

Murray I think you overestimate how easily influnced young adults in a professional competition with INTENSE scrutiny are.

True, but that is not my point mate.

It says to young players, you can be given numerous chances, bugger every single one of them up, get the arse, and another club will still pick you up.
It says self discipline and sticking to team rules - means nothing.

.............. and what great example he would be to our ever growing group of young teenage footballers
That is up to the most expensive football department in history to take care of but as I said, if his problems run too deep then forget it.

Just though I should highlight that because it is actually all that is relevant. Whatever we do is a means to an end and if this isn't the end we don’t have the right people running the FOOTBALL Club. So far we have failed and that hardly inspires confidence in the status quo. If we change nothing we achieve nothing. Nothing is more certain.

Bit of a rumour going around with Gardiner at the moment. Maybe a little bit more than just drink driving...... stay tuned.
