Wow I love it seems like we have some very good young Aboriginal players in our side. It's about time I have always loved the way they go about it.

for those interested, the game will be live this Saturday night on ABC2 at about 7 30 and on ABC1 on replay at about 11 30pm.

Heard ABC Ultimo was having trouble faxing this weeks programmes to the TV Week offices.

They've a grand tradition of having trouble communicating anything meaningful in the direction of Melbourne so this is no surprise whatsoever.

Whats Garlett's main attributes? Is it speed, skills, strength?

Speed and skill.....soft, clean, one-touch hands, reading the fall of the ball, some quick first steps and a nose for goal. IS also comfortable kicking off his left as well as his right.

While I have seen him use his body cleverly at WAFL level, he is still very light and skinny and will rely on his speed and slipperiness.

Cheers - this beats the chickflick my girlfriend wants me to watch. :thumbsu:

Did anyone watch it?
I couldn't get out of the chickflick.
How was the boys?

I watched it, but only vaguely as well as doing stuff on the laptop....both seemed quiet with limited game time. Yarran did a couple of nice things, including a run-down and tackle with the loose ball resulting in a goal for his side.

I watched it. Both had a quiet game.
Yarran: Wouldnt have touched it more than 4-5 times. Couple of nice tackles resulting in a goal but that was about it. Was played mainly on a wing with 10 mins a qaurter maybe. Looked to pick up a small knee/leg injury with about 10 mins to go and didnt return. Looked very minor though. Seemed to be loitering around the packs.

Garlett: Played average. Maybe 5-8 touches. 2 shots on goal, 1 from a very tough angle on the boundary which he kicked OOF. The other running towards goal on a slight angle, which he tried to kick low through the goals but sprayed it and it went in for a point. Few nice touches, including a precise kick tucked up on the boundary to find a leading Wonaemirri. Showed more than Yarran.

Thanks Gilly.
Hopefully we get a better look at them in the NAB cup.

Yarran - 1 possie that missed the target, I fumble when the ball bounced in front of him when on the lead,1 tackle that resulted in a goal and showed he has a nice leap when he jumped over someone for a mini spekkie that he dropped. Struggled with the pace of the game, and found it difficult to get involved.

Garlett had 2 or 3 touches, including a set shot from the boundary that he put on the full. Was seen mostly in the back half as the all stars flooded back to counter the tall fwds
He also had a nice intercept/spoil of a short pass that he then drilled to Austin Woenwhatshisname inside 50. Had limited game.

The all stars played with a lot of intensity, smashed Adelaide in hard ball gets and tackled like maniacs. A very good game for the 2 guys to get a run in and experience the level and pace of game they will need to step up to.

The All star team was the quickest team team I have yet to see play AFL and Adelaide couldnt cope.

For Gilly - Petrenko played with a lot of dash across HB and smashed John Stephens, his direct opponent. A few decision making errors in tight spaces but the kid showed why he was elevated from a rookie and looks to me like he will make the grade and be a good player

How was the boys?

They didn't get too much game time given the strength of the All-Stars lineup.

Yarran did a couple of nice Eddie Betts style tackles. But otherwise he seemed to have troubles finding the footy against mature bodied AFL players.

I was more impressed with Garlett who seemed busier.

You should cut out the middleman and collect a stool sample from the boys if you're going to over-analyse their first competitive hitout.

Let them play and talk about the positives without breaking down their games like they're veterans.

The benefit from being selected for this game is Gartlett and Yarran would have witnessed how Mcleod and Burgoyne train.

It looked like Armstrong and Griffen were playing for the wrong sides. ;) :D

Great concept to acknowledge the indigenous Australians after seeing the speech before the game. :thumbsu:

For that reason, this game should have been shown on Seven in prime time instead of that horrible pre-season opener. :thumbsd:
