Are pathetic excuses for journalists. Their treatment of Sean Dempster the latest example in a long line of examples. More than anything, it's shockingly lazy, and if not lazy - malicious. All in the name of a headline.
Sean Dempster is a warrior. He's 33 years old and will finish with 222 games, the majority of them being of the highest order. He ends his career having played five grand finals - but due to his quiet nature you probably wouldn't know it. He put his heart and soul into the Saints, and before that Sydney. I don't think any other Saint comes close to the amount of times Dempster has been laid out going back with flight.
Courage personified, truly.
So while Sean is at home, reeling from his latest medical reports in regards to his long term health prospects - due to his team first attitude and want for the contest - Barrett comes out on prime time tv with some tripe about him being a sook, that he was basically throwing a tantrum because he wasn't selected.
We know now it's the furthest thing from the truth.
How hard would it have been for D******d Barrett to make a few calls to ascertain the accuracy of his claims? Not had at all. But no, he smelled blood and went for the kill in an attempt to remain relevant in an environment that is up to its neck with this guy.
The fact that Dempster has tried to live his whole life entirely removed from the media spotlight makes this even worse. Now he has to deal with both the long term repercussions of concussion and his name suddenly being synonymous across the country as a sook and a sore loser.
Then, to top it off, Lyon, fresh back from depositing a knife in his best mate's back, comes out and says Dempster should be dropped from the 2's next week to teach the 33 year old 222 gamer a lesson!
Personally I'd like to see Gary take a week off for being a campaigner of the highest order.
Piss poor effort. I'm tired of these clowns getting a run. When will we get some journos that can actually do their job?
TLDR; Lyon and Barrett should apologise to the great man S Dempster before moving in with julian assange at the ecuadorian embassy, leaving us in peace.
