Gary Ablett injured

Give him two months, get him absolutely 100% for finals.

Gives younger players a run where they won't be able to hand-off to him, keeps him fresh and 'hungry' come finals time, shows what Geelong can do without him, and lets the rest of the team experience 'pressure' from closer games.

You'd still be top 2 in two months anyway.

Different standard I know, but Daniel Harford had an adductor tear, and it completely destroyed his career.

yeh i remember halfadozen.... but lets look at this for what it really is....Gary has soreness.....not a tear.... im all for resting him... but the Geelong team is not at 100% when hes not out there.....And i'll be gutted for him if he misses out on a Brownlow becuase of another injury.... :(

Well if he has 5 off he also gets the benefit of the bye.

Does Hogan play now?

You wish!! ;)

I'd like to see Travis Varcoe given a run in the Gaz position. We really don't know what he is capable of on the ball because he is asked to do so much tackling. Similar to how Gaz was playing before he moved to the middle and his game went up a couple of gears.

Awful news.

He'll need a massive second half of the season to put the Brownlow beyond doubt.

Being built up as favourite for the 3rd time and missing out due to injury (like last year) would be a terrible thing to happen.

Why oh why did Gary play on Sunday. He was tugging at his groin after the Adelaide game and after the Brisbane game and at the end of the first quarter yesterday. Can someone, preferably the coaches, tell us why he wasn't rested.
Ottens out for a few games, then has an operation and we don't know when he will return, Harley seems to the same, Ling????, Egan gone after the debacle of 2007 when he wanted to play-of course- but wiser heads should have prevailed.
The medical management at the GFC remains questionable and, like our playing down to bottom teams, doesn't seem to change.

witsend, I hope you were fishing for a bite. I have NEVER wished injury on an opposing player (well maybe Shane Harvey).

Agree on the Varcoe call - I see a lot of a Burgoyne in him, though I've only seen him on a couple of occasssions, there are flashes of play that scream 'midfielder' to me.

It's not like your hard-up for midfielders anyway.

Interesting how our biggest concern out of all this is the Brownlow.

I feel for ya Gaz :(

Well seeing as we're not struggling for star midfielders and we're still winning games, of course the biggest concern is the brownlow!

Gazza deserved it last year and looks under threat again because of injuries this year!

Geez, that is disappointing for him.:( I was hoping he may even get up for this weekend, then read he is out for 2-3! If it is only a strain,as stated by the club,he might be a chance for the Bulldogs game in 3 weeks time.
Im not 100% sure, but i think Gaz got 3 votes both times we played the Swans last year too!

I'm not sure why people gave any credence to Bomber's comments @ the press conference yesterday.

The club have consistently stretched the truth over the last couple of years when it comes to injuries. The only constant is that players are generally further away than the club leads on.

So even this news I would treat with a certain amount of scepticism.

Great opportunity for shift those midfielders out of defense and back through the middle. No doubt Chappers will be able to spend more time in the middle like he has asked for the last 6 years :)

Really shit for Simpson though, looks like he will barely be fit by the end of the year and suddenly we have gone from top heavy in the 2's to lacking a forward. Although Lonergan's days in defense I suppose are over now so he'll go up there and put some pressure on Hawkins spot.

it will do him good to have a couple weeks off, if the brownlow is the primary concern here (which it most certainly shouldnt be); well, considering he probably already has around 10 votes then he has plenty of time to come back and score the extra 15 odd votes he would need to win it. I see it as a good opportunity to give him a few weeks rest, try some others through the midfield, and get him cherry ripe for the second half of the season and the finals.
