Pull out 'The Hoops' marketing campaign again.

That one has legs in it surely :D!!!!

Seriously, as a member of a team who has more bandwagon fans than anyone else, I can tell you that barrackers are the death knell of Victorian clubs. They need to become members, there is no excuse.

I think I heard Brian Cook on Triple M say a few months back that over 51% of Geelong's fans/members are based in Melbourne.

Is that correct? Is it a good thing...or a bad thing?

Depends on the direction on the club I guess. Geelong has been a viable marketplace for AFL/VFL footy for over 100 years, I'm not sure why it would change.

We haven't become members yet simply due to the fact that we haven't been able to afford it... we're a recently-married couple, after all, with all kinds of bills to pay. And my Immigration battles have been fairly expensive, too... just too many important things to worry about.

But come late March, we hope to be paid-up members. We'd certainly love to be, and we have no shortage of passion and commitment for the club, that's for sure. :)

Cheers,
William

Hmmm...

I take back my claim of 'no excuses'.

Sorry :(

I heard him say that & its probably a good thing.Instead of just having one area to try & attract members [in Geelong],they can also target people in Melbourne & country victoria.

You can be as proud and as passionate as you want, but if you don't become a member, you may be looking for another club to be proud and passionate about in a few years.

Put $2.50 a week away and your there, no offence, but there really is no excuses. If Geelong had say 35000 members we would be an awesome force.

I can't speak for those in Melbourne, JubJub-- but they certainly campaign for members in country Victoria.

Here in Ballarat, there was a carnival-type preseason membership drive at Bridge Mall, and there were similar drives elsewhere in Bendigo, Shepparton, Hamilton, Portland, and the like, and TV adverts featuring Billy Brownless pining for country memberships aired throughout the AFL season. So they're certainly trying...

I'm a fully paid up member, and will be next year too!! Been a member since 98. I live in the south east suburbs of melbourne, and i know a few geelong supporters that won't sign up because they don't get value for money. I don't really get value from my membership, but i still buy it because i love the club.

Kate :)

Believe it or not, I was never really into football at all in my primary school days. My brothers loved it, but I never had much interest and always got sick of watching it on TV.

But, in 1994, my first year of high school, in was a Sunday afternoon and I had nothing to do. My brother was heading up to the MCG for the Melbourne v Geelong match, so I decided to come along to fill in the day.

Even though Geelong lost (by quite a bit), I enjoyed the day out and loved the atmosphere at the MCG. The next week, I tagged along with him to the Geelong v Footsray game at Kardinia. The Cats rebounded to thump the hapless dogs and I was hooked. That was the day I got my first junior squadron ticket.

I went to just about every other Victorian Geelong game of the year - each week becoming more and more passionate. Luckly enough, on my debut membership year, I saw my team go all the way to the Grand Final!

I have been a Geelong member ever year since, and I have been to about 90% of all the Cats Victorian games [even an interstate one - against the dockers in perth in 2000!]

I am a HUGE cats fan now and plan to keep buying a membership for the rest of my life - wherever life may take me around the world!
:)

GO CATS!!!

:( I wonder if non paid up members have considered how they'd feel if there was no GFC?

Players and Officials come and go but the Geelong Football Club is a constant part of my family's life.

"Crazy', "get a life"- we've heard it all before!!!
The GFC is part of our life - the good and the bad!!

Not to have that anymore would be unthinkable!! -Hell the off season is bad enough without having to give up football totally!

We rarely go to games but we are country members - it allows us to feel that in some small part we are helping to sustain our club.

Country and Interstate membership is relatively cheap.
I'd certainly recommend!!

Go Cats

I'm a member! Wouldn't be anything else! And I never regret buying one either!:D

Go Cats!!:)

Been a member since the day I was born! Our whole family have memberships and we even have 5 extra for friends, guests, relatives etc.

I even bought my nephew a membership for this year, and he was only born in March.

Been a member of the club since 1997 after years of Junior Squadron Memberships. I never think twice about signing up each year because I know our loyalty will be rewarded one day with a flag.

I can't really accept the excuses either.

I have Uni fees to pay, a car loan close to $20,000 to pay off but I will still manage to pay for my membership & seats this year.

One suggestion, use the monthly installment option when signing up. It is great if you can't afford to pay the whole membership in one lump sum.

Skilledfan,

Thank goodness for the cricket!! :)

Having said that the subject of 'Geelong' still comes up in the summer months in my family, talking about what we have to look forward to next season, etc etc.

Go Cats!!

Some friends of mine have already started planning to go to as many pre-season training sessions as possible! And being in Geelong it will be easy to go to most of them!! But this time of the year is always good with the drafts and all!! There's always footy to be talked about!! :D

Go Cats!!:)
