Have only watched the first 5 mins but seems alright

Honestly forgot how blunt PJ was when he first came in. Didn't mince his words and knew what his focus was. Backed it up with hard work and didn't attempt to hide from anything when discussing the clubs issues. Had a very realistic view of the where the club was and needed to be to get better. No wonder he had such a strong relationship with the supporter group from the very start. Literally labels every major issue in his first sit down with club media

Flash forward years later, you got Gary Pert dancing around hard questions from Lyon on SEN when the club is facing seemingly significant cultural issues and that's not touching on the other role of president

I miss PJ. Wished we had gone for someone much better than Pert. Don't know what people saw in him as an admin.

I rather suspect (and did at the time) that it was a boys club arranged marriage type of thing

Pert to me always felt like, 'Hey look at us a little club poaching a big CEO out of Collingwood' except he had already been fired and was just the unwanted trash

The bloke was out on his arse and at a loose end - but he’s got buddies and was skewered into the role. Saints also the victim of some AFL stunts along these lines.

PJ had endorsed Josh Mahoney to the board to take over from him but they decided to go different a different path in hiring Gary Pert which was led by Glen Bartlett.

I distinctly remember Caro reporting at the time that PJ wanted Mahoney but the AFL made us take Pert as we were still in their pocket after they bailed us out after we sacked Neeld.

I had forgotten about Tom Browne lol. Bloke with Collingwood ties thought the ex-collingwood bloke was the stand out best for us

just barrack and support. No need to yell out dumb, bogan stuff that makes 0 sense. Like 'roooo'. If anything it sounds like a pay out because we're yelling out Nick Riewoldt's nickname, a guy who was on of the best marks in history.

Whenever I hear 'rooooo' I slouch down in my chair a bit. it's just cringe.

Are we going to call Harry Sharp 'robbo' from now on? Harry Sharp's initials are H.S. H.S stands for Herald Sun. Mark Robinson used to work for the Herald Sun. Robinson's nickname was Robbo. That's how simple, loose and unintelligent some of the nicknames are like 'Roo'.

And I think players need to reach a certain level before being given a nickname. like 'jibber' for Jack billings and Jeffo for Matt Jefferson, for real? Become an afl calibre player first before earning a respectful nickname.
I've never yelled "Roooooo" at the footy when he's near the ball. I usually yell "You useless c***".

Man those clips of Peter Jackson just openly roasting the club after taking the job make me laugh. What a legend.

I remember in 2022 when the wheels started to fall off. Some guys made up a song about the curse returning, maybe to the tune of American pie. I heard them sing it on the radio on SEN. Was a bit of a laugh at the time but sadly on reflection seems very true.

Just weeks after his retirement party, Brian Cook is back to help the Demons

Veteran administrator Brian Cook has been hired to mentor novice football chief executive Paul Guerra at the Demons.

Cook, who retired from full-time work at the end of this season after more than three decades in football administration, culminating in his term as chief executive of Carlton, will mentor Guerra for a day a week on football matters.

Cook was one of the longest serving chief executives in the AFL system having spent nine years at the West Coast Eagles before moving to Geelong where he was in charge for 23 years and finally four years at the Blues, the last of which was handing over to his successor Graham Wright.

The Demons are aiming to tap into Cook’s vast experience and, more importantly, his football network to mentor Guerra, who was previously chief executive of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and had not worked in the AFL industry.

The appointment also comes less than two months after football powerbrokers and politicians gathered for a luncheon in the MCC committee room to honour Cook’s career in what was billed as a farewell to footy.

“The idea [of appointing Cook] was really to provide a mentor for Paul with his lack of football experience,” Melbourne’s new president Steven Smith said.

“Brian is an old teammate of mine – he played with me in the few senior games he played in the late ’70s – and he has vast experience in the game that could be really important and helpful to us.

“The timing was right for him and for us. Brian is one of the most highly respected administrators in the comp so he is ideal for Paul. We were lucky with the timing.

“It won’t be full-time, it will be about a day a week, it might be three to four hours a week, we will see how it goes.”

The position will only be advising on football matters and he not a review the executive or business structure.

The Demons want to access Cook’s long relationships in the game, to support Guerra as he delves into the nuances of football industry politics.

The appointment comes after a season of huge change at Melbourne. Aside from Guerra’s appointment, the club changed senior coach with the appointment of Steven King after the premiership coach Simon Goodwin was sacked mid-year.

Smith has just taken over from Brad Green after a planned transition, and most critically the club made hard decisions on the playing list, trading out contracted pair Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver as the Demons continue a youth-driven list revitalisation using the draft picks from the Petracca trade to once more push into the top end of the draft.

Sounds like Smith actually taken over as President. Wasn't much fanfare around that.

I gave this a listen and it was very good imo. Good research and a lot of stuff I had forgotten about. Peter Jackson seems like the sort of person that gets rid of toxic people in organisations. He was great for the club and quite a loss. Without unpacking everything the Oliver saga was the most intriguing for me. I totally forgot about his hamstring issues in 2023. What really was going on there. The other thing was how poorly we handled the media and the constant delusional messaging of having a great culture. I liked the way this doco started off with the fact we brought in leaders from other clubs such as Cross and Vince to help with rebuilding the club and then concluded with the fact that we have young guys that have leeaders that want out. It definitely makes me think that bringing in Steele is the right decision. I also think King seems like a coach and not so much as one of the boys. The one thing I thought may not have been accurate was the fact Adelaide had offered 2 first rounders for Petty, I thought that was more speculation.
