Think we know a bit don’t we?

Clarry broke up with his missus, got into bad habits, had insomnia and was playing pokies all night, struggled with recovery, poor behaviour escalated.

Had a mental illness flare up, needed medication (which likely contributed to weight gain) - then finally started getting on the path forward, which will finish with the GIANTS
yeah i was wondering why i hadnt seen him at port macdonnell for a while, thats where shes from he would sometimes been seen at the footy oval

Olivers issues were around far before he broke up with his missus, lets not pretend otherwise.

I've got no doubt he has had genuine mental health battles, my issue is there has been whispers about his off field behavior since very early in his career so I find it hard to give him any leeway.

Reality is we will never truly know exactly what happened or what came first out of the mental health and drug use, and we probably should stop caring (Me included).

I can get behind this. It’s done.

New coach, new season, some new players. I’m looking forward to starting again.

I don’t think I said that did I?

Most people have underlying issues that are exacerbated when they have significant life changes.

Clayton is like anyone else int the world that regard.

100%

He's gone. Time to move on.

Okay. Got it.

IMO nobody gets a pass for their behaviour unless so profoundly afflicted/psychotic/delusional that they have no control over their actions during that time. Oliver included.

The phrase self-inflicted is a bit like deciding chicken before egg though. Depending on the condition and the person living with it, substance and gambling issues are incredibly common co morbidities, to a point where a person is more likely to have these issues than not and can be more than 20 times more likely than others to experience such issues. So while it’s possible to have mental issues that stem from behavioural choices, it’s much more likely the other way around - that the behaviours stem from the mental disorder. There are no cures for neurodevelopmental disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders etc and we’re not even close. There are blunt tool drug treatments and various talking and/or behavioural therapies aimed at best at controlling excessive symptoms and behaviours but the efficacy is highly variable and for most it’s a matter of decades of try this try that before discovering the best available mechanism to have some level of control.

But you’re not wrong. Everyone has to cope with the hand they are dealt, however challenging, and make the best of it. And whoever you are, you can’t expect some kind of universally uncritical treatment when your conduct badly affects people around you.

Not sure about the last bit of “much worse mental problems” bit though. People can be high functioning for a considerable time before breakdown, or be very sick but episodically, or mask incredibly well so allocating a scale of good to bad is the worst kind of amateur guesswork.

If by funding you mean that someone earning a million a year is going to get the top notch treatment so is more responsible than someone who doesn’t have a million a year, I can’t agree with that. You can’t buy your way out of these things. Otherwise people totally would
This is a fantastic post

Let’s talk instead about the 2021 signed footballs I have for a really good price! PM for details!
I only want them if they were signed by former player manager Ricky Nixon.

I’ve met Ricky Nixon. Not an experience I would like to repeat. I actually wouldn’t mind the couple of hours back. A total grifter and a depressing sad case.

If only we had a TARDIS or the Delorean.

Although, time travel is wierd.

Not talking specifically about any situation but it was so much funnier back in the day when all these people were around footy making dick heads of themselves and then getting the piss taken out of them on the footy Show and such.

So boring now 😂

I remember going to Melbourne vs Adelaide in 97, was a return game for Schwarz. Anyway I remember we went to the game with family friends from SA and their family friends. I remember the night before talking to them about the footy show. They said they hated Sam Newman. I asked them why and they said he would always make fun of South Australians. I guess I never really noticed being Victorian, but just shows how the show use to have some fun banter. The stat rivalry obviously died down because no SOO but yeah still use to have good skits.

Sam was quite possibly the funniest guy on tv at one point. He was such an inspired choice for that show. He also didn't miss a beat when Eddie left and Garry/James took over. So many great part players throughout the show's time, but it was Sam's show.

Yeah, Sam Newman's a bit of a dick, but he could also be very funny. The footy show encapsulated the footy club 'vibe' of the time. Enjoy footy, but have a bit of a laugh and not take it all too seriously.

"his knowledge especially, in attack, is second to none"
Are they sure they know who they hired, sounds like Goody got hired under false pretenses 🤣
Did Goody lie to Sydney?
