This is so true, there's more AFL coverage than coverage of sport like the NFL in america.

It means that every single player is insanely scared to talk like a human because they'll be the news cycle for a week, players are over analyzed to someone like Nas has 18 and 3 and gets torn apart by Lewis showing edits that I bet could be done for Koz in the same game and then the gossip and rumours around the sport are like a teen magazine rather than a professional sport.

I guess people don't care but there's so little actual analysis of the game state outside of " put on pressure and run hard"

Swear I put in more effort into me lab than the majority of footy shows
You should check out Jeff White's youtube channel.

Isn't it him pausing videos while talking through a tin can drawing lines and arrows everywhere

Haha wtf, apart from being absolutely baseless, why wouldn’t we have high expectations? Hardly going to say ‘we’re a bottom 6 club’.

Hird has ****ed up the Bombers, huge reason why they are where they are now and have been for years, hilarious that so many of their supporters still back him.
I dunno man, find it really weird how mad people get here when there's a media report/opinion.

I'm usually the one cracking the sads about bad opinions here, but I don't really get flustered by media stuff. Watching it is completely optional.

Every team every season that isn't absolute dog shit (which we aren't) should believe that they're capable of playing finals if they turn up each week. If we made the top 8/10 this year we wouldn't even be close to the worst team to do it. Believing you're a 'top 8 side' doesn't mean believing you're good, just that you have a chance of sneaking into finals. Not much wrong with that being the internal messaging within the club to motivate the boys to turn up.

My sources tell me we will be a top 10 team this year.
I like your chutzpah, but I am taking it one week at a time.

This seems like standard insurance company bullshit but just wondering what exactly Brayshaw is seeking to claim? Presumably we have paid out his contract regardless. What are the AFLPA and Zurich payouts exactly?

I saw someone on reddit who claimed to be more knowledgable on this stuff suggesting it may be a Total Permanent Disability payment which are very difficult to claim and require a million hoops to jump through.

Zurich are the insurance providers to AFL players through the AFLPA. I believe it's for life insurance and as you mentioned the total permanent disability insurance. Zurich have been pulling out of the concussion side of it for a few years though, which surely should be a huge red flag for the AFL.

Zurich have been SUPER shifty about the Brayshaw case - Withholding information, having him followed around, ignoring mountains of medical records. Now that's nothing new from an insurance company, but doesn't mean it should be accepted.

Private investigators are a very normal part of the TPD/workcover process, you'd be amazed at how often they're utilised by insurance companies.

That's not to say I agree with the morality of these orgs and practices (I don't), but this is getting airtime mainly due to Brayshaw's profile. Feel bad for Gus, but these are pretty standard proceedings - the parameters of TPD are pretty stringent.

Not defending them. Just trying to gain a full understanding of what is actually going on. Didn't Morris say the AFLPA side of it was seperate to Zurich and is likely to be resolved soon?

I suspect it's going to become harder and harder to get insurers to cover professional athletes in a contact sport retiring due to concussion going forward.

Not sure if Morris confused things a bit (It's one of Zurich's companies that insure through the AFLPA I think) or maybe Gus had his own 'top up' insurance through Zurich? Know there's been players in the past who have got their own additional cover.

**** insurance companies. If you ever get the chance to defraud them, you should
Insurance is effectively gambling but without the same level of stigma.

When you “win” the “house” (insurance company) will look for ways to say you “cheated”.

To be fair there are a few genuine cheats out there.

As soon as the odds aren’t in the insurance company’s favour they close shop and run.

Having had multiple concussions myself and time off work I certainly emphasize with Gus. It can be a living hell. One of the worst parts is you can look like a functioning person from someone else's eyes because you can walk and talk and do most things what appears "normally" but you can be seriously messed up in the head. It's clear to me from how Gus describes his symptoms he is still significantly affected by concussion and is not faking it.

Shame on these empty suits. A plague on all of them.

The worst thing about these practices is that they have no idea how a person is actually feeling - it just looks like a person going about their lives unimpeded. People can mask. People sometimes have no choice and have to leave the house even though every part of their body is screaming at them to stay home. My old man suffered from PTSD and had one of these losers following him around everywhere, trying to say he was faking it. Just scumbags who will stop at nothing to gather "evidence" for their heartless penny pinching masters.

No arguments here, some of the practices are abhorrent. Was more just emphasising that what's happening to Gus isn't necessarily out of the ordinary. If this shines a light on it more, good.

Sorry to hear about your dad.
