It’s almost like since we won a premiership - and did so with a demonstrably good game plan that restricted opponents to minus 65 or whatever it was, everyone in the team plus the coach is too scared to deviate from it. we have to lose that mindset

We do, we need to evolve

But I can see why the club would be hesitant to do so

The game plan still works, we've been 5 goals up in all our losses. What doesn't work is the gameplan when they get comfortable. 18th in the comp for pressure tells you everything. You can circle the drain for hours trying to come up with solutions but it's all between the ears. We can still stop teams scoring, we just don't want to like we did.

The pressure bit is annoying. I feel as though we have a few players in a bit of a form slump. This wasn’t the case in finals last year - our only player not at his best then was probably TMac. I feel like the best way to push through a drop off in form and skills is to apply manic pressure and wait for confidence to return.

I hope the team got a real scare last week. It’s time to wake up

Yeah and even when we won the first 10 we weren't dominate but we were defending super well which means the effort was high. Its almost as if after that point they started reading the dipshits on here posting worse 10-0 side ever and shit like that and started actually thinking we were the dominate side in the comp. Whatever the drop off has been it's brought us way back to the pack I swear I heard on Gus and Gawny they had a win the morning thing at the club last year which they would get big numbers too, not sure if it's even a thing anymore.

Then you've got a young star and a popular player both weighing up leaving and it just all feels off

I’m not fully sure that you have nailed the general usage of ‘circling the drain’ there Kent, but I’m prepared to let it slide

How man cans deep are ya big sheila
I’ll have you know, Kent, that I am sober as a relatively pissed judge.

Nah I am slightly, but not tragically, wasted. I have 3 weeks left in my job as of today. And its so bizarre because the work has dried up because nobody involves me in anything that will carry on for more than 3 weeks. Which is everything. I mean, tomorrow I have to give a presentation rant to a group of people at 2 PM and nothing else scheduled, and literally no work to complete. Its actually bizarre. I took a nap for an hour on the couch in the office today and felt sort of guilty about it, but nobody noticed or cared and **** only knows how I would have spent that hour more productively.

Haha seems like a situation where you should shake hands, they give you your last couple weeks pay, you steal a laptop an spend the next couple weeks watching Netflix and buying different toys for cats off Amazon

I’m pretty much doing this on an unofficial basis anyway.

Never understood why companies do this. Pay you out and train someone else up in what ever tasks you'd be doing. Why waste everyone's time for 3 weeks. The moneys already a sunk cost effectively.

Actually I’m in a mood to expand even if this is entirely the wrong thread for it.

The whole ‘leaving, but sitting out four weeks’ is crazy shit, at least in my scenario. I’m basically off the list for all meetings since they are planning stuff well beyond my being there, and other than meetings nothing else has filled up my days for some time now.

So I clock on first thing - which is easy enough since I’m WFH - but 8 hours spent in my spare bedroom that I’ve been pretending is an office for a few years now is crazy shit.

Looking back, I should have done myself and everyone else a favour and taken leave. Actually I might see if this is possible and pack up Friday

Companies might think this through better I would say.

Its Government I work for, and their capacity for wastage is beyond belief. It’s nuts. The “4 weeks” thing is only relevant if you are needed to hand-over tasks and train. This doesn’t seem to be happening here so why am I here and why is the taxpayer making this possible?

While it might sound great to be phoning in at work and not having anything to do, its actually pretty tedious and annoying. I think I will go talk to some people and take the next few weeks as leave and actually be able to do something fun maybe

We are down in so many facets of the game, I just can't see the switch being flicked. Despite everything we still have been up or close in every game or played patches where we look good.

Reasons I think our form isn't fantastic rn:
1. Other teams have worked out our use of the wings and using a spare in defence instead of even numbers at stoppage.
2. Gawn and Jackson out of form and no Tmac means we are losing way more contested marks and exposing ourselves to outnumbered contests we don't want to have. Weid doesn't even jump and only until his last game or 2 Brown was clunking any.
3. Backline has had more forced changes and almost all, bar Petty, Hibbo and the addition of Brayshaw are out of form, especially in their desire and ability to kick dangerously out of D50 and switch. Possibly because mids aren't getting up and down the ground as well.

The reason I think our around the ground pressure is shit is because the mids are tired from these outnumbered contests around the wings and needing to slingshot it from D50 all the time. Same with the HF as well. The desire has probably dropped off as well but I reckon a lot is structural.

My fixes would be -- kick it to Gawn down the line a lot less and encourage the defenders to attack from their intercepts.

The Brisbane game maybe is not the best game to look at because they were off. But, we had Lever dominate in the air and then use it by kicking to runners on the wing. Jackson won clearances, yet didn't have it kicked to him in every contest, he was winning ruck contests from genuine stoppages that weren't a result of a bail out kick. Then Viney was going crazy and the pressure being off the charts, generating turnovers in the front half. Maybe from not setting up stoppages unnecessarily out of kick ins all the time.

Of our 5 losses, we have been in front at 3/4 time in 3 of them, in front at HT in 1 of them, and trailed Geelong by 4 points at HT in the other.

Our gameplan stacks up, notwithstanding some weeks we've sturggled to defend (e.g. Dogs) and others we've struggled to score (under 65 points in losses against Freo, Collingwood, Sydney, Geelong). Concern for me is that we haven't beaten any other team currently in the Top 4, but I believe if we get it right physically and mentally, that tactically and technically we're more than capable of winning it. I also think we'll win minimum 2 of our last 3, which would have us 6 from 9 heading into finals - not bad.

I hate those stats lol if we had lost to Brisbane and Freo they would be top 4, if we'd beaten Sydney and Collingwood they wouldn't

I don't believe Brisbane to have ever been in the top 4 teams in the comp this year - my opinion - and Freo have since gone off the boil. But I agree that we have won plenty of big games against those two, Dogs in Rd 1, Richmond Anzac Eve, Port over there.
