Need advice and desperate for help.
I'm a complete useless technical person.
Somebody told me I can get 9 now and 7+ for free and it's easy to put on the telly.
I've got no internet (besides phone) and have no idea what and how to do the technical side.
Anybody can help please

From memory you have to register with both (you can do so on the app on your phone). Not sure if your tv has the apps on it themself. If so you can then log in through those. If not, you may need a Chromecast to then cast from your phone to tv.

So with the black friday sale promotions I've taken it upon myself to upgrade several SSD's across my laptops

Waste of money spoiler alert lol
Have upgraded the ssd's in my 2021 gaming laptop several times (added a second drive, then upgraded both the O/S and the secondary drive to larger sizes later on). Swapped the 512gb ssd to a 4tb SSD in the laptop I purchased last year. And with my second gaming laptop (purchased just a few months ago) I added a 2tb SSD in the secondary slot

Now I should have upgraded each SSD to the maximum size straight away, but not wanting to spend the $$$ in one hit, I elected to replace the SSD's periodically and as mentioned in the spoiler boxed text.............. I just upgraded to a slightly larger increment.

In each of those instances of replacing the SSD, instead of starting with a fresh install of the O/S drive I'd just clone it. Ditto with the secondary drive. But each time it would take less than an hour for the successful clone (ranging from 512gb to 2tb of stuff on each ssd).

Jump forward to today - my first task is updating/replacing the SSD's in my 2024 gaming laptop. For some reason the USB-C to USB connection was going super slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Basically had only cloned 6% of 1.8tb of data in an hour.

Then as a test, I had a lightbulb moment....... I was going to try buying another SSD enclosure and seeing what happened (would hate it to be a faulty SSD itself).... until I saw the google listing of the enclosure that I've been using...... then boom I'll see what happens when I use the USB-C to USB-C cable................................................................. The process finished in less than 30 minutes L O L.

Whenever I or my son shut down the Xbox (series x), the wifi router shuts down and restarts - has anyone else experienced this? I cant see anything in either the xbox or router settings that controls this. Internet searches offer varied, vague and inconclusive explanations and solutions.

So here's my problem.

In my cars I can bluetooth the phone to play audio / media hands free. I can even switch source back to the radio hands free.

What I want to do hands free is be able to switch apps within the phone hands free without android auto or carplay.

It's all well and good to say 'yeah you can bluetooth your phone to your car stereo' < Great until I wanna change from SEN to MMM or a podcast.

To ensure you're complying with the law, you have to pull over turn the car off, remove the keys from the ignition and THEN manually handle to the phone to achieve what you want.

Not practical

You can do this on android auto and carplay without having to touch your phone IF your car is compatible. Which by the way this law is hypocritical. You can distract yourself by touching your aa or carplay car unit but not your phone.

So is there any software / hardware that allows one to remote control their phone that is NOT another phone?

Yeah I think I looked at this law you might be talking about... and that's not what it says and not what it means.

Actually did further digging, I think you're right. I was previously under the wrong impression.

I've linked govt web pages so posters looking at this has a reference.

General rules for all devices

Drivers with a full licence can use a mobile phone or device to make or receive a phone call, use audio and music functions, use GPS navigation or use in-built driver assistance or vehicle safety features.

However, the device must be properly mounted or in-built to the vehicle.

So you CAN 'touch' your device IF it's mounted.

The rules for WA, slightly different and hypocritical.

Mobile Phone Offences and Penalties

Drivers can use a mobile phone to make or receive a voice call while driving a vehicle if:

  • the phone is secured in a mounting, or
  • the driver doesn’t hold or touch the phone while doing so.
A driver can use a phone as a driver’s aid (e.g. GPS) if:

  • the phone is secured in a mounting, AND
  • the driver doesn’t hold or touch the phone while doing so.
So the above is you can 'touch' your device to make or recieve calls but you CAN'T TOUCH your device for gps or other drivers tools. So the assumption is you have to use voice command for gps, which I've found is inherently unreliable.

So if you need to put in an address for google maps then yeah, you'd have to pull over, turn off the engine, take the keys out of the ignition and key it in, set it up (pair with car or transmitter), start navigation, THEN you can start the car and drive off and be navigated to where you want to go.

Fair enough, but my beef if is is you have an inbuilt nav system and media players like android auto or carplay it's ok to touch that screen, but you can't touch a mounted device to do the same thing, there's no difference, so it's a bit hypocritical for mine.

The idea of the laws around using devices in vehicles is to avoid distraction, so where is the line on what a distraction is? AA and carplay I'd argue is a distraction as much as a mounted device. What about the car stereo? Listening to music or news or whatever could be viewed as a distraction.

You set your GPS before you start, don't you?

I don't believe this is what "driving" is under these laws.

I would check, because it's more likely to be legal to pull over and put the car in park, whether or not the engine is running. It's almost certainly OK to leave the keys in.

And yes, other distractions are a problem. The laws around driving without due care and attention can cover those situations I believe. Even if you're doing something that's not illegal, if you do it in a dangerous way without care, you may get booked.

And set your GPS before you start driving. If you can't, pull over.

Not the point though is it, you can change your navigation with AA or carplay by touching the screen but not allowed to on your mounted phone.

And what if I need to change address mid trip?

Ok on your AA or carplay screen but not on your mounted device.

That is at best inconsistent

I'll see if I can find it, but I've read somewhere on these govt pages that 'driving' includes being in a stationary position with the engine running.

In any case I wouldn't test the waters on that.

In relation to this law? In relation to drink-driving that would be the case, but I think that's "being in control of" a vehicle.

Sitting drunk in the drivers seat of a car with the key in your pocket would also get you done for DUI, engine running or not.

Yes in relation to the 'device and driving ' laws in WA.

If you can find it, please post. I just doubt that is the definition of driving that would get you a ticket under this type of law.

Hey Chief

While driving, it is illegal to touch, hold or have your mobile resting on any part of the driver’s body (unless the phone is stored inside a driver’s pocket or in a pouch). ‘Driving’ includes being stationary with the motor running, like waiting at stoplights or stopping roadside.
