I was too young, so what was with Gerard Healy coming to Collingwood in 1991.

The information I got is that he was picked up at 59 in the Pre-Season draft which was the last overall pick.

What I know about the Brownlow medallist is that he was forced into retirement due to chronic wrist injuries at only 29 or something. Did Collingwood pick him up just as a hope that he would come out of retirement or something?

Tell me more...

Thats exactly why. The club hierarchy hoped that Healy could be talked out of retirement so used their last draft pick to get him. It is probably more an indication of the quality of player left to recruit than anything else.

I don't think he registered. Like Watson when he stepped out for a year, he was simple eligable as an ex AFL list player and we punted. He had his wrist looked at and was advised to give ot a miss. He was actually keen to play because he though he was a chance at playing in a premiership at the Pies.
