okay, so maybe this roast shouldn't be directed at mister healy, but this article has tipped my over the edge. some of the points raised in this article are stupid in my opinion. yes gibbs hasn't dominated the midfield yet this season, but i dont see why we need him playing down back. surely gerard hasnt been living under a rock and has realised that yarran has been tearing it up down back all year (bar round one).

hoops last year was played up forward last year as a defensive forward, and was arguebly the most damaging in the league till he got injured. was setting many up and was averaging over a goal a game. why waste such talent in a position that he has already been tried in with limited success?

saying our backline is our biggest weakness is very short sighted IMO, especially when before last week we were ranked 4th in average points kicked against us (and i am assuming that we would still be in a similar position after we played the swans). yes there is room for improvement, but everything that was mentioned in the article suggested we are missing a good 3 or 4 players down back.

also, putting waite down back is like robbing peter to pay paul. yes waite was in AA form when he was in defense (and i dont remember him having any critics when in defense, he even got selected for the all stars game). but what forwards do we have to replace waite with?

and can reports stop forgetting about bower who is an automatic starter when fit. once playing, much of our perceived weakness in defense will be our the door!

krueze going forward isnt such a stupid idea and he is tall, can mark and can kick, but 99% of ratt's hints have suggested he will play in the centre more often than up forward. other than the game against port which he won off his own boot, he hasn't shown much else to suggest he will make such a difference to the team in the forward arc.

finally, all this rubbish about us being so reliant on judd. yes, there is no denying that he played a ripper half of footy which went a long way to getting us over the line. but when you look at players like mitch, smurph and curnow, they are always putting their head over the ball and dishing it out to others, but with far less recognition (besides curnow, because all you hear when bruce is commentating is OMG WHAT A STORY THIS KID IS, I THINK I JUST BLEW IN MY PANTS, HE HAS AVERAGED OVER 20 TOUCHES IN ALL HIS GAMES, I JUST BLEW AGAIN, AND HE BROKE HIS LEG LAST YEAR....OMG NOT AGAIN). murph has picked up his game massively this year with a full pre-season, and his odds for winning the brownlow are getting shorter by the week. at the end of the day, judd is a superstar. supertars ALWAYS lift when the pressure is on. although we might have other players who pick up their game at the same time, people are always going to turn around and say judd got the team over the line.

sorry about the rubbish rant, im just sick of reporters writing un-informed articles.

Not a rubbish rant at all, I posted this in the Carlton supporters thread, Healy is a drop kick, I don;t know how he has the senior Fox journo gig, he is up there with the worst football journos at present, his predicitons pre season had us 13th.

That article is one of the worst I;ve read in a long time, really sub standard and ill informed.

Put comments there if you want

The "relying on Judd" tag is fast becoming redundant. Murphy has been more consistent in his performances so far, and Betts was just as imporant in us winning on Friday night.

I couldn't give a shit what he thinks: we're one of the best contested ball sides in the AFL and we're improving every year.

We'll rub his face in it in two years time with a nice shiney premiership cup.

Yep, Murphy has been a more consistent performer this season so far and Eddie really isn't getting his deserved kudos for his efforts on Friday night. Even Judd said he was the difference (granted Judd isn't going to blow his own horn)

I'm sick of the relying on Judd tag. He's obviously a superstar player and can tear games apart singlehandedly but does that mean our entire gameplan is structured around him? Does Ratten tell Judd before the 4th quarter "alright Chris, go into overdrive now please"? No, he just does what great players do. Are we supposed to ask him to hold back?

I think Hendo will regain form. I'm more concerned over Kreuzer and how he'll play. For a young man he's missed a lot of footy.

That, and big men that have done their knee rarely come back the same.

Fingers crossed for both of them.

Too reliant on Judd? What a laugh, yeah you keep thinking that fatso. Before it was too reliant on Fev, since we sent him packing, we've done pretty damn well without him our side never gets credit from these morons. He even went as far as addressing the form of EVERY team in the top 8 except guess who, but Mike Sheahan was quick to let him know about that.

I also love how Essendon are top 4 off the back of a gc thumping in Melbourne and without their 2 AA defenders and another senior defender missing in krakour, but when we thumped them by a similar margin with their full side in up in brisbane everyone said "oh it was only gold coast".

Kiss our arse you halfwits.

Don't worry bout Kruze he'll be as good as new with the modern reconstruction surgery technology they usually come back 100%, just look at Waite he's not as big as Kruze but his athleticism hasn't been harmed at all, still can leap as high as ever and still pretty fast.

Kruezer is the key to premiership hopes for us in years to come. He will come back and make a huge difference because he is a ferocious competitor and a meticulous professional in his preparation. He can really play and thrives at the elite level.

He will be a powerhouse the next 10 years.

Hendo is a different story. The bloke just isn't much chop and has very few AFL standard attributes. A Brad Miller type.

You lost me when you wrote that, the guy is coming back fom Hip surgery, he will be a big player for us in years to come.

As much as players like Murphy have improved this year i still think they will ony be getting 2 Brownlow votes while Juddy takes the 3s, now thats not saying we rely on Juddy its just saying that he is playing fantastic football and if it continues should see him taking home his 3rd Brownlow come the seasons end.

Lost me too.

Easy to forget that after Fev's heroics on New Years Eve it took him 3 years+ to establish himself as a quality FF. Hendo is young, probably needs to bulk up and is coming off an interrupted preseason.

Probably won't be great this year but I think a feed of humble pie is on your future menu.

No it would mean that, like the commentators, the umpires struggle to see past Judd because of what he can and does do instead of what others do in each match. .. Murph should have at least a couple of 3 votes sewn up already for mine and in those matches players other than Judd should be the only ones who should take that from him. ..

Yeah i'm getting really sick of the journo's aswell. Everytime we win a game all they talk about is the negative side. Weak forward line, bad kicking etc. How about you look at the team that had the win and is playing good football and talk about some positives like deffensive pressure, tackling, etc. Everytime Essendon win it's all wow they are amazing blah blah blah. We are as good and IMO better than Essendon this year but according to the journo's were shit with massive holes and Essendon are top 4. What would happen if Watson went down? He is as important to them as Judd is to us.

Henderson will come good. He needs a couple more weeks in the 2's then bring him up. He is a 2-3 year project who should continually get better. Next year he should start to show something and the year after even more

Oh dear, going very close to making the same mistakes as your namesake there. Not sure if you saw any of him last season but it suggests he has all the tools required to be our next premeirship CHF.

Ignore the twits... each team has 1 or 2 players that can be viewed as the "most important" and without that said player(s) would struggle:

  • Wayne Carey - considering there were also many good players on that team without him they were viewed as not being the same team
  • Sandilands/Pavlich
  • Darren Jolly (Pies) - he was the key to their Premiership win... without him on the weekend a weakened dogs outfit almost prevailed
  • Adam Goodes
  • James Hird - even though with good/great players around him during his playing days without him the Bombers apparently would be hopeless
And there are many other examples...

One thing to note all the above bar Pav/Sandi played in premiership wins.... and a premiership is not won by 1 player! In fact it's great that everyone takes their focus on the one player and the rest can go about their business playing their part in making the team successful.

I love how it is always something...

Swan destroys every game and there isn't a "heavy reliance of Swan"

If buddy plays shit, Hawks will lose 9 out of 10 times

Can you imagine Essendon without Watson

Freo without Sandilands

It is quite humorous that they always seem to find something not to give us any credit...

My exact thoughts. Friday night straight after the game on the ABC they spoke about our backline deficiencies. Look at the amount of games each has played. The uninformed experts continue to repeat this idea that we are not improving. Again this is followed by the usual Judd rant that we rely on him. We played fantastic on Friday and so did Judd. Frustrating.

After so long in the wilderness, the Blues fans I'm sure would be happy to Waite another 12 months if the small improvements we are seeing this season culminate in a genuine crack next year.

Aaaaaaaand lol.

:o

Leigh Matthews is another who never praises Carlton, the only good thing he spoke about on radio or tv over the weekend was Judd.

He said we rely on betts and garlett too much up forward and our defence is not up to scratch.

No mention of Hendo, Kreuzer, Bower etc all coming back from long layoffs and to come into the team.

But yet somehow with all these problems and no postives were winning. Must be a miracle because apparently we have no backline or forward line.
