Hopefully next time that situation presents itself, Houli pulls the trigger without second guessing himself and Lambert runs through the opposition player and holds up play rather than allowing the easy mark.[/QUOTE]
pretty much how i saw it too, went against the team structured of defending a slender lead with a centering kick but geez lambert had a paddock and full credit to ibbottson and the other hyenas who ran in and cut off houlis not so perfect kick, glad it happened now tho and not in september :straining:

Yeah right, he's been great for us and will continue to be.

Agree, after watching from behind the goals Bachar would have hit that kick 99 times out of a 100, Lambert really had no chance to be honest.

Agree with you and _EAD_ but the reality is that his choice carried risk. The risk that he didn't flush it, Lambert dropped it etc etc and with the game situation as it was you just don't take those risks. The potential reward doesn't justify it. Do it when you're 2 points down or 8 goals up. I know it sounds like hindsight, but the risk was exposed and we paid what could be a massive price.
It was a **** up. In a game of cockups.
We move on. Bachar's a champ.

Oh no doubt, can understand why he did it is all, the footage of him after the siren is gut wrenching.

Breaks your heart to see such a quality bloke endure that.
But then he's got the character to get thru it, so as Dimma said, he'll be right.

Love bashar. He chose the right option but he didn't kick it well
sorry but is clearly against team rules. Wouldn't mind betting behind closed doors lambert gets a kick in the behind too, for presenting as an option in that situation. What is the good of having team rules to close out a close game and then ignore them.

It was a knob of a decision and on the TV you could just see what would play out from it, but with 6 posters and 1 on the full nearly all from gettable shots, you cant blame one bad decision, Houli was having an ordinary game and sometimes the luck is not with you and shit happens, had the courage to take it upon himself by speaking to the media, but I'm sure everyone knows we lost this with all round bad kicking not with one bad kick.
If the players take this the right way we out played the top side and have the chance to take on the best side next week, we should have could have won yadda yadda, we didn't, but one thing is with some sensible play in the forward line and adherence to the game plan we know we can match it with most teams, maybe all.

But if he kicked it properly he still would have hit him on the chest

Has played out of his skin this year.
His response to the situation shows a lot of maturity and calm when a lot of others have had melt downs.
It's a win off the field for us because we know Bachar and the rest of the team won't break any team rules again, and it's another sign of maturity that the entire club has not had in a very long time.
Still looking forward to seeing them in the GF

PS I'd rather this little hiccup happen now during the regular season than say any final!

Well done. This is the most sensible post I've read about the subject on this board.
Too many bleeding hearts throwing up straw man arguments and collecting likes rather than accepting the fact it was a bad, strategic error at the worst possible time.
Bachar's a smart bloke. Has been great for us for a long time. He'll learn from it and won't do it again and our team will be better for it.
Missing a goal =/= doing the incorrect thing.
For what it's worth, I pretty much did exactly the same thing Jack did after witnessing it, too. We need to get used to expecting more from our players as the team gets better.

But if he kicked it properly he still would have hit him on the chest
if my auntie had gonads she'd be my uncle, why have team rules if they are not adhered to , let everybody flaunt them, you end up with everybody doing what they think is right. I'm sure you can see what the outcome of that would be.

I was at that end of the ground and lambert was in an acre of space, it was just a shit kick that went to where lambert wasn't, and anyway with a minute twenty to go when Houli kicked in who's to say freo wouldn't have sent it back inside 50 and kicked a goal anyway or the umpire pull out one of those head scratching frees to pavlich right in front, we should've put the game to bed much earlier than that houli kick in anyway.

Eh...was extremely angry at the time and screamed all sorts of obscenities, at the end of the day Bachar knows what he did wrong and thats what counts i guess.

What really irks me is that the kick shouldn't have mattered because we should have been 18 goals 10 rather than 10 goals 18 and we would have won by 6 goals, while Bachar made a big mistake, the blame for the loss rests on the whole teams goal kicking abilities.

Wayward goal kicking seems to be sticking to us like a bad flu, we work this out and we can go pretty deep into the finals.

the mistake and the misses in the last qtr prove what i have already thought, in that we are not quite ready to challenge for the flag yet. EXPERIENCED and battle hardy teams don't make those mistakes when the game is on the line, and shows that we, as a team are still a bit immature. The best thing is we are in the mix and the difference between us being where we are and being where we want to go is so close. we just learn from these mistakes and move forward. Bachar will be better for it.

Many mistakes made throughout the game cost goals against us. Lets not forget Dustys brain fade... Mind you what soft game are we playing, that it was a free kick...turned into a 50....

Like i said in another thread. Its worked for Hawthorn and Geelong.I hope for the sides sake that Dimma went upto the whole playing group and actually praised Houli for the actual intent and not comment on the result.

good luck with that ever happening! genuinely

Griffiths miss where freo took it down the other end and kicked a goal was more telling than Bachar's mistake imo
11 point turn around

Yeah, that was the mistake I was filthy about, and like a flog, told everyone who would listen all about it on Sunday. But I've moved on, and forgiven Griff.

I just hope it doesn't leave a dent in his confidence. Now that his probably done for the season, it'll be a while before he gets a chance for redemption.

Love the way Dimma & Grigg closed ranks around Basher and did not allow the media to single out one player in the final result. Their positions were more realistic, that the game is won or lost over 4 quarters....

I don't know how how to say this because it sounds contradictory....Houli would be my favourite player at Richmond currently. Has been for a while, I love the way he doesn't pose with slags with finger salutes in pics on social media, and the way he just does his job week in week out is great. That's not to say I think he is an automatic start every week if someone can push him out. I think Houli is mature enough to know how to deal with this but I still think he could be a very small bolt in RFC success.

I know I would find the stress of what he did on the weekend a horrible burden.

Good post, though honestly I think Houli is an auto-selection. Very decent half backer, often does put his body on the line which has gone unnoticed a bit. Even if we got an elite HBF I'd still play Houli on a wing.
Happy also to also have such top blokes at the club, Houli and Maric are two amazing examples of footballers as human beings.
