As members of the footy public. we have been privileged over the years to be able to watch Robert Harvey play. At 37 years of age and playing in his heart out in season number 21, he deserves nothing short of a royal send-off. We are lucky as a team to have the opportunity to play his team in what might well be his last game (not that St. Kilda are out of the finals race and barring injury to Harvs - knock on wood).

The purpose of this thread is twofold:
1) spruik the Round 22 match, tell your friends and family to get on down - there'll never be another Robert Harvey, and
2) to share memories of the great man's career.

A memory that immediately comes to mind is recent; a play he made in our clash earlier this year. He was trapped on the boundary, and looked like he was about to be tackeled when that hand-pass came. He popped it over his head without looking, to a running St. Kilda player (I can't remember who), who ran in and booted the goal. Best assist I've seen all year. This is typical of him, and I'm sure you'll all have similar "dammit Harvey!!" moments from over the last two decades.

The Richmond and Eagles fans gave Sheeds and Jimmy a massive send-off last year, and I am personally grateful to them for it. I think Harvey deserves no less.

Stuff Harvey. Great player and all, but he's in it for himself - he stated that on Before The Game.

Bring on the game for Jason Johnson!!

Come on guys we are better than that.
Harvey is a champion and whether we like it or not we should recognize him, not discard him.
We should go for both players JJ and Harvs. They both have my respect and i would go for both of em equally.
In short i agree with the OP.

Harvey really is a champ, I'm afraid that gets bandied about too often, but he will go down as one of the modern greats (behind one J.Hird of course!!)

My eldest had the privilige of giving Harvs his medal at this years NAB Cup Granny. He's possibly more one-eyed than me, but after that he's also a Robert Harvey fan, which is a great role model for young on-ballers IMO.

Can't say how disappointed he & I were though when we got rolled in the NAB semi, would have been a real highlight to give a medal to a real team!!!

I will respect him before and after the game but I wouldn't give a stuff about him during the game
I have been mouthing off to Stk supporters and that is the one game I don't want to lose for the rest of this year, especailly if we can kick them out of the finals or we can make the finals still.

I'm hopefully going with mum's bf who is a Saints supporter. Is it a fully-ticketed game or whatever it's called? I'll be there to send off JJ, and if Saints aren't playing finals, then Harvs as well.

It's the day after my 21st. I'll be so hungover but three of my friends are taking me to the game as my present. Two sainters and one other don supporter. I can't wait :p Lucky it's twilight, might have recovered a bit.

Don't get me wrong, I have no love for the St. Kilda FC, nor for their supporters. As a young kid leaving the 'G after a loss to them, a St. Kilda supporter actually turned around and pissed on me. But as a whole, I think Essendon supporters are a bit more of a class act - despite what has appeared in reply to my post.

Champions of the game deserve to be sent off in style.

P.S. I would love to see JJ play in the ones again, but I'm not holding my breath. It would be interesting to see how many of the posters here would make their way to the Bendigo match if he ends up bowing out there.
