On the bottom toolbar of my screen - like where the date is, I used to have icons like battery (its a laptop), wireless connection strength, local area connection availability, the volume thing...and now its disappeared. I only have a winzip icon & the time.

The program icons are fine - they're over on the left. Explorer, desktop, word...all that.

I'm not sure how to get the volume et al back tho??? I tried going to 'properties' (which comes up when you right click that part of toolbar) and then changing them from 'hide when inactive' to always show, but nothing has changed.

Help :(

from http://windows.about.com/library/tips/bltip501.htm

To manage this area, simply right click the Taskbar, and choose Properties. In the Properties window that appears, on the Taskbar tab, check the box next to "Hide Inactive Icons" if it isn't already checked, and then click the "Customize..." button. That will bring up a window that allows you to choose one of three behaviors for each program icon that appears in the system tray: "Hide when inactive," "Always hide," or "always show."

That's what I did! They're all changed to always show. But there's no change?? But the list of icons is divided into 2 sections - current items & past items. All the ones I want are listed in past items - but I can't drag them up to current or anything??
