I'm making the trip over for Sunday's game and was after some tips.

We are staying in Franklin St in the city and have printed off directions to the ground from whereis.com, but I was wondering if there were any suggestions as to which roads I should or shouldn't take.

How long will it take us to drive to the ground.

Where is the best place to park.

Thanks

from the city, easiest way for out-of-towners is straight down port rd...follow it for 15/20mins, then left onto west lakes boulevard which takes u to the stadium...
park in west lakes mall on members side of the ground - but don't expect to get away quickly as it becomes jammed post-game.
the drive in no traffic wld be 30 mins tops, but allow at least an hour, shldn't be too bad on a sunday at that time...
enjoy yr visit - we're not that bad, really

Thanks for the advice.

Those directions are what whereis.com have given me, so I will just follow them.

When I last went to AAMI, I went to a sportsbar right near the ground and waited for the traffic to go. Do you know what the name of the sportsbar would be.

I would take Port Road as well (if coming from the city) and once you are on Port Road there are signs where you have to turn. Stay in the middle lane and look to merge left just past the tram line.

So you don’t get pissed off and fully stressed on your way to the ground on Sunday – think about getting as taxi from the city, it would only cost you $20 there and $20 back.

If you want to drive to the ground, give yourself plenty of time and leave the hotel a few hours before the match (1:30 - 2 pm) and have a walk around west Lakes mall.

On Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon matches, the West Lakes shopping centre car park gets packed because football people have to share it with shoppers and the car park get full pretty quickly.

I can guarantee you will not get a park in the shopping centre if you try and arrive at the ground anytime after 3:15 pm.

Parking at Seaton High School is also an option and a bit easier to get away from than West Lakes Mall car park.

I normally park in one of the side streets south of Seaton High, you can normally get a fairly decent park within 10 minutes walk if you arrive about 30 minutes before kick off.

Don't catch a taxi, I'd think it would be much more than $20 when you considered all the traffic. Might be a $20 trip when there is no footy on.

Bus definately the way to go. Catch it from either Victoria Square or Stop E3 Currie Street(50m West of Crn Currie St/King Will St Intersection) and it will set you back $7.70 return.

The Currie Street stop is probably the way to go.

If you're leaving late from the city, you will want to go Henley Beach or Grange Rd onto Military Rd, then come up West Lakes Boulevard from the opposite direction.

In 1985 perhaps....If you can get from the cbd to footy park for $20 can you please let me know what taxi company you use!!!

It cost me $15 the other day from the airport to Eblans Subaru on Brighton rd. That is 8km only and was done at 11am with minimal traffic....cbd to footy park is basically double that + you need to factor in that the taxi is gonna get banked up on WL blvd while the meter ticks over.

Poor advise unless you were secretly planning on boosting our economy with a little of Victoria's hard earned $$;)

No way in peak traffic, but its not really that much more than 20 if the roads are quiet. Ive taken a cab many a times after the sheds closed and ive had a few brews.

Yup it usually costs me around $8-10 for a 3km trip. By your reasoning, AAMI is about 6k's from the CBD, with green lights the whole way.

Take into account the fact that the price per km gets lower as the trip goes on, since the majority of the $10 is the fee they charge the minute you get in.

This is definitely the way to go to make it easy :thumbsu: http://www.adelaidemetro.com.au/routes/footy/footy_express.html

You can also catch it from North Terrace. Go to the Strathmore Hotel http://www.strath.com.au/hotel.htm before the game for a few drinks and them jump on the bus right out the front at closest bus stop. Says footy express on it and just wait. If one passes and it's full then wait they just keep on coming. Check the times above for an idea of the times.

Once the game is over go strait to the bus stop and head into the city to drown your sorrows and reminisce on the season gone. :p
