Awesome work.

That 2nd Wellingham goal was a typical GF winners goal for mine. Late afternoon sun in the spring, shadows lengthening, opposition dropping off, player can mark and play on, dash for 10m and goal.

Saw it for years in the 98, 01, 04 and 08 GFs. Finally, it is our turn.

Personally i like Gerard Whateley's call the best, especially on Swan's goal.

For me that was the piece of commentary that will be remembered for a very long time by Pies supporters. Every time I watch the replay (and that's plenty) it's the moment that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

The only other bit that comes close was when the collingwood players were swarming all over the saints players on the half forward line. They were fumbling and getting consistently pushed back before Gram got picked up and pushed back about another 5 metres by Cloke before being unceremoniously dumped. I think the commentarty from Commetti went something like... "and the umpire just lets it go on and on and on." The ferocity of the tackling in that play was absolutely huge and reminded me of the desire of blokes like Gavin Brown and Tony Shaw back in 1990. So devastating was it to the Saints that even players like Hayes seemed to lose focus on the ball and played the man for a while in sheer frustration.

I can see Goldy with his trusty implement, scratching out his name in Fette Fraktur and a delicate pose with him in blue man-tights and a frill, legs a-stride with the oval ball reaching the clouds.
