Hi all,

This is not specifically on topic, but rather than create a specific thread for this, I'll place it here and a reminder in the Forum Rules thread, to gain maximum exposure.

I note that this relates to a practice that has happened on this board, and indeed on most boards within BigFooty, and I have done it, so no-one's pointing fingers specifically at anyone in particular. But please comply so we don;t have problems going forwards.

NewCorp has expressed concern about whole articles (or close to) being cut and pasted onto this site. News claims it breaches their copyright. Posters here are the publisher of each of their posts, so you (as an individual) might be liable for any breach of copyright where you have copied material from another source.

If referring to material from a source outside of this website, the accepted rule on BigFooty is that users may quote one or two paragraphs only and include a link to the full article.

Mods are being asked to remind posters of this requirement:

5. No illegal content; respect copyright owners
  • Articles from other sites should be limited to a relevant paragraph or two and a link to the source.
Please adhere to the above site rules so that the Mods don't need to involve themselves in your posting.

Further to the above, here is the request that site management has made to Moderators:

Warn Users

There is a new Warning to apply to posts which you believe to contain infringing material - mainly full copies of news articles:

Possible copyright material.

The user will get this message with the Warning:

=============

This post looks like it may contain re-published material from another source:

Please remove any posts which contain, for instance, full articles from news organisations or material which might otherwise breach the copyright of a third party.

You may of course retain small portions of material which you are directly commenting on, and link to the source - just edit the post and take out the excess material, and link to the source if you have not already.

Posting or failing to remove such material could be against our terms of service:

Our 2025 Giants woman of the year - well deserved recognition of a foundation member who has been such a great help to our players.

The GIANTS have celebrated and spotlighted the efforts of Celia Carroll, foundation member and one of the club’s greatest community advocates as the 2025 GIANTS Woman of the Year.

A pivotal part of the GIANTS supporter base, Celia has been a stalwart of the club and there for every significant moment throughout our history.

Sharing in the highs of first wins, milestone games and finals appearances, as well staying through to the last siren in low moments, Celia has been a dedicated pillar of the GIANTS club.

From the early days, bringing young draftees like Toby Greene and Stephen Coniglio home-cooked meals or mowing lawns for the first-year players, Celia, alongside husband Flav have been tireless in their commitment to building the club’s local support base and ensuring the family-like culture extended from HQ and off the field into the stands.

They Focus on all the wrong things in VIC

Crowds are almost the least important part in a long term expansion.

Corporate support is reasonable and increasing, growing their "interested party" base which international sport long ago identified as the key to long term support all that happens before rusted on fans.

It is building and will take a generation. The amount of people you see wearing the giants hat or jumper is growing.

Kinda have to agree with Toby - Tom Green’s habit when travelling is a bit disgusting!

Green, who is often away from home travelling with his team, has devised an unconventional laundry hack that his captain has described as 'disgraceful'.

'This is not right in my books,' smiled Greene while appearing on the TFG Tuesdays podcast.

'Tom Green reckons that sometimes when he's traveling, especially overseas, if he can't get to a laundromat or something, he will chuck his undies in a kettle and boil the kettle to clean his underwear in the hotel room.

'Disgraceful. And he reckons that it's a thing.

'I drink cups of tea every night at the hotels. I was disgusted.'

Our social media team has been criticised for the post they made on Taranto after our wok last weekend. I guess this controversy means more clicks for them!

“I like near on everything they do. I thought the stuff that they’ve done around pretty much every team they come up against, has been fantastic.

“But that was a miss.

“And you take into consideration that Tim Taranto shared the plane back with Cal Ward and then drove him home and dropped him to his place of residence ... That was a miss by the Giants.”

Veteran AFL journalist Caroline Wilson agreed.

“That’s poor sportsmanship,” she said.

“And they’ve had to apologise already once this year for that banner with the Sydney Swans.”

The Giants social team regularly stir the pot, and have offended their crosstown rival on multiple occasions.

Yeah, maybe so. But, you don't get everything right, on or off the field.

Poor sportsmanship comment from Caro. Nah, that's a miss, too.

And did any of them consider it might have actually been an homage to Tim? i.e. You might have lost, but you were great and we respect you? Or even, a simple, "wish you were still in GWS colours"?
At worst it was a fun poke at a well-loved former player …. Caro is cooked

Seems Delana has a very talented younger brother, and their mum is trying to make him play AFL instead of League as she wants both her sons to play for us at the same time!

Josaia Delana is also a fellow cross-coder and only the fourth recruit from Western Sydney to join the Giants.

“To see the parallel pathway that he’s taking, you know, it is very similar to myself,” the excited big brother said.

Aaron Cadman on the pressure of being a number 1 draft pick.

All that made one of the toughest components for him coming into the system his own impatience.

"I didn't want to wait for anything," Cadman said.

"And then also the pressure with being number one. You want to play straight away and showcase what you got and show people why you've been drafted at number one. So, it was really tough."

Would have felt that pressure x100 if he was drafted to a big Victorian club.

WHY THE SWANS SHOULD CONSIDER A RIVAL

HERE'S a thought. In their search to replace outgoing CEO Tom Harley, the Swans should look across town.

Dave Matthews has been the boss of the Giants since 2011 – making him the longest-serving CEO at any club. His start there came after running game development at the AFL.

The AFL's gain in Harley is Sydney's loss and leaves the club with a new CEO to go with a new coach, football boss, list manager and recruiting manager in the past two years. Harley is remaining at the Swans until at least the end of the men's season as the Swans start their transition process.

New South Wales remains the AFL code's greatest frontier and nobody knows that as acutely as Matthews and the Giants, who continue to try different ways to find an edge in the rugby league dominated region. Matthews was on the front foot on the weekend as well, responding to the Saints' call to abolish the northern Academies, as revealed by AFL.com.au last week, as "laughable".

The Swans and Giants have had a tense relationship since GWS entered the competition as the brash little brother, but the barbs, tweets, dramatic finals and derbies should be put aside as Sydney picks up its process to replace Harley. Matthews is worth a call.
