Looks a slow burn considering how potent your midfield is.
I wasn't a huge fan in his draft year to be honest, but I really liked what I saw in VFL last year. Hoping he can push hard, but looks like Cogs has started the year rejuvenated and Harry has a couple of years on him, so yeah he might be a slow burn.

GWS GIANTS

Ahead of AFL season No.15, Stephen Coniglio is in terrific shape. Teammate Tom Green said Coniglio had been looking “explosive” playing through the midfield and “really strong and confident in his body” over the pre-season after an injury-plagued past two seasons. A few more to watch include James Leake, who’s added size to his frame over the off-season amid a push for an early return to the senior side, as well as 2024 draftees Jack Ough and Ollie Hannaford, while fourth-year ruck Nick Madden is in a good spot to play more AFL games due to the new five-man bench.

Injury latest: While star duo Toby Greene (glute) and Jesse Hogan(foot) are expected to be fine for Opening Round, they have been in some doubt for the AFL Origin clash on February 14. Coleman Medallist Hogan eased his way back into full training after post-season foot surgery last year, while Greene has spent ample time with the Giants’ rehab group due to a glute injury. Hogan played in the Giants’ most recent match sim suggesting he should be OK to represent WA, while Greene was held back. Listening to coach Adam Kingsley address the duo’s injuries last month, there’s no doubt the Giants will err on the side of caution if there’s any concern
about them playing in the WA-Victoria clash. Recruit Clayton Oliver has spent a few weeks on the sidelines due to a calf setback, but Kingsley a fortnight ago insisted it was “not a big deal”. Darcy Jones(ACL) is making great progress in his rehabilitation, while star midfielder Josh Kelly (hip) is determined to return to the field in the back half of the season.

I really like the addition of
Idun
Green
Buckley

It's early days for Cadman but given his words about wanting to Captain the club in the future I hope he starts getting some leadership responsibilities.

I also think it's perfect timing for Cogs and Kelly.
Cogs looks great and maybe just focussing on football and family for a bit will free him up. Just hope we get to see Kelly again.

Really happy to see the reports about Cogs looking good. First the COVID seasons, then multiple injuries really derailed him, so it would be nice if he could get back to good form and have an injury-free run in 2026.
Just glad his not taking any chances that could lead to another injury

I've heard Toby say somewhere during last season that this year is maybe his last year as captain. So it makes sense the younger guys have come into the leadership group but a bit surprised it's only 3. Maybe it's already a straightforward choice for the playing group to pick the next leader. I think Connor would be very good but suspect Tom will get it.

3 vice captains.

Probably a larger leadership group outside of that

I think Im in the minority.
I want our guys to play in the origin. I think the benefits outweigh the risk of injury.
training and playing with elite players has benefits, as does having a quality hitout before the first game.

I agree.

I understand the risk of injury and why fans would want to minimise the risk to players, Although, if the players want to play, and let's face it, they're footballers that love to play footy then that's their decision. Unless the club has an issue with it, which they don't based on what Kingsley said in a recent presser, then no issues.

The players know the risks. The club will deal with it like any other injury if it happens. While I personally won't be thrilled if it happens, they're footballers that love footy that want to partake in this game, let them make their own decision.

It's not as though our players are the only ones playing, pretty much all clubs across the league are represented.

Yeah, If you don't have a problem with the NRL playing origin its hard to have a problem with this. If the interest is there from the players that is all that should matter imo.

I was a bit annoyed with it to begin with, but I'm sort of coming around. It could be a valuable hit-out for these players and help them build up to the beginning of the season. As long as they don't get injured.

Do we think the player that play in the Origin game will also play in the first practice match against Collingwood? There's a 6 day break between those games (same as the break between the practice match and the pre-season game).

Would be all for it if all the states were included.
NRL can’t. AFL can.

It’s a vic ego trip, not for the benefit of the sport.
