Ginbey/Lalor incident

She didn't get off, she got it downgraded to careless.

Bald here you go. Pushing a player into an ump also an offence. I don't think umps are 'inanimate objects'? I'm sure now you'll say 'of course, it's an umpire'. What's next? on your list of back peddling?
No suspension though. Still, the outcome of this was obviously worse, won’t surprise me if it gets a harsher grading

It'd have to be a severe grading with concussion and fracture/surgery confirmed.

Still, there is enough vagueness in the rules for the AFL to massage this one however they see fit this week.

So if a player pushes somebody in the back and they fall awkwardly and get injured, is that going to be a suspension as well.

Was clumsy no doubt but with no intent.

The AFL might as well make any incident that causes a concussion a reportable offence

That would depend entirely on whether it was adjudicated that you've breached the duty of care, which is highly unlikely if they've not pushed someone directly into harms way and the player would still be able to protect themself. Both of which didn't happen here.

But you already knew that....

I don’t need to back pedal or move goal posts here.

Charge was making contact with an umpire.

Next?

At some point the AFL is going to crack down on this. It's rough conduct to intentionally push a player into contests while in vulnerable positions. Ginbey is looking at the market player as he pushes Lalor into him. That's not an accident.

If they don't do it for this incident, gurantee the next one they will.
Ginbey is looking at the marking player expecting that the ball may go over the back, hence why he pushed Lalor to get clear. That's an accident.

Pretty sure that's how it's going anyway. If you choose to do any act that results in a head injury, then you will be suspended. Might not happen this time but I bet in 12 months you will see players rubbed out for the same instance.

As much as bumping a bloke in the head and concussing them while having eyes on the ball is, yes. You can still get rubbed out for that though....
Can you provide an example of someone being rubbed out for a push that doesn’t include them being shoved into the boundary fence?

I have tried to get it out of them. No, they can’t.

They’ll now probably show you how someone being pushed into an umpire is similar (despite the charge literally having nothing to do with a push) and short of that tell you that “once upon a time xyz wasn’t an action worthy of suspension”.

Has the Victorian premier signed Ginbey’s death warrant yet?

Judging by the public & media reaction coming from Victoria, I’d expect it’s imminent….
I think they’re just finalising if his execution is going to be behind closed doors at Punt Road or in front of a sold out MCG.

Not to my knowledge, no. But that doesn't mean they can't.

Sling tackles were fine not that long ago, remember? There is a first for everything.
Mate I feel you’re really clutching at straws here.

I’m sorry that Lalor got injured, it sucks and if something like this happened to Reid last season, I’d be dirty too.

But what Ginbey did isn’t reportable and wasn’t intentional. If it wasn’t the #1 pick who copped the injury this wouldn’t even be being talked about.

Agree, it was careless and it will get looked at, at a minimum. Could go either way.

It doesn't fit nicely into the table, so the AFL can do what they please.

Ummm it was a marking contest where Ginbey was trying to push Lalor under the ball so he could go back and mark.
Happens all the time, unfortunately other players got to the contest just as it happened.

To suggest it was a thug act where Ginbey intentionally pushed him into oncoming traffic is laughable.

Well the impact level of a charge is determined 'on outcomes', in this case a broken jaw. So yes, it has to be considered...

You need to assess the action first. Is it a reportable action? If No, then there is no case to answer. If Yes, then look at impact.

What rule was broken?

A player pushing someone into an oncoming player would be Misconduct.
"Misconduct has a wide meaning and generally is any conduct which would be reasonably regarded as unacceptable or unsportsmanlike"
It's their 'catch-all' rule.
The same rule was used for Lever pushing Lewis into the fence.
