You people haven't got a clue if you think Arch is on the wane. How many times have you seen him play incidently? He made the all Australian team last year by the way. Has been a star over his career (multiple all Australian, Norm Smith Medalist) and anyone who says otherwise hasn't got a clue. Saying he took the 3rd best forward is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard. Always used to match up (and flog I might add) Matthew Richardson. Add the fact that he is only 5 foot 11 and a half and yet plays on key position players. I have no idea how he played on the weekend, but even if he played poorly he has played some great games this season and he is playing with a broken hand. Has had a sterling career and is still the most courageous and inspirational player in the comp.

What Asprilla said.

Archer playing on one leg is better to the morale and defense of a side having an extra player on the ground. Think what you will about the man but the next time you see a Roos game keep an eye out for him.

Call me what you will, but all those who are giving Archer a bagging, you are so WRONG, and for those who say he wouldn't get a game at the eagles, you are out of your minds.

let's get a few things straight.

- i'd still take Jako over him.

- we have Darren Glass and Trent Carroll as our two key defenders, I like Glass, and have a lot of time for him, but in his dreams, he could not imagine being the player Archer was, and is. archer would play for us this year, and next year, even with a broken hand. We marvel at Chick with a "pinched" shoulder. Archer has a broken hand. And is still playing BETTER than average football.

- As others have said, Archer plays on every size of forward, and for whoever said "third best forward", you are kidding yourself. Martyn played on the full forward, then Archer got the best other forward .... this means that he played on Kernahan and Martyn played on Warren Ralph or whichever dud was at FF was.

McCartney better than Archer? get your hand off it, McCartney was never better than average. Great bloke, doesn't make you All Australian.

Archer is one of those rare breeds who actually uses "CONTROLLED AGRESSION", as opposed to the Scott brothers or any Essendon player. He is tough, but fair. And bl00dy corageous.

Sorry any North supporter for this blantant crap spurt forth in this thread.

Nope

We have enough good mid-sized defenders, young, not in the twilight of their careers and certainly not carrying a restricting injury. I cant see whose place he'd take.

I would guarantee if the opportunity arose where Archer could end up at West Coast he would not be taken. I have nothing againats him as a player at all, but why would we bother with someone at his stage of his career, carrying an injury when we have plenty of guys who can play back there who are much younger.

There's a difference between getting a hypothetical game, and actually being drafted. Of course we wouldn't draft him as an aging player, but North'd be crazy to let him go. Right now though, if he was already on our list, he'd get a game.

I don't like him, I respect his toughness, but think at times he focuses moreso on that than actually playing the game. Having said that, Whoosha is still my idol, so if Archer was alifetime Eagle I dare say I'd adore him.

For Carneagles replacing his old avatar.

I never said West Coast would actively seek to get Archer on their list, like we would have no reason to go for Jakovich. Neither would want to leave, and it would be totally against what I know we are attemtpting to do as a footy club, and what I am sure West Coast are striving to be in 3 years.

But I was responding to the comment that he would not get a game at your club, which is one of the silliest footy related things I have heard in a while.

Maybe people should check out a few videos of the bloke in action. Maybe the '93 season when he kicked 5 from a HFF, a few on McKenna, and a few on your current coach. Or the '95 semi-final when he kicked 4 goals from the same position, against the same blokes. He went forward often, and did it bloody well.

If you asked Woosha whether he would select Archer for you guys this week, he would just laugh and nod. Then he would punch you in the face for asking a stupid question.

Come down of ya box north boy. Archer would have been one of the first selected in anyones team from 93 to 99. But no-one is chronologically infallible and old bow n arrow boy is not as good as he once was.

He even admitted to giving the game away this year as a result of his hand. The guy is as tough as public school nails - but his worth on the footy field has diminished somewhat.

Thats all well and good but Im talking about him breaking into the current team on current form and fitness. There is no place for him.

Agreed.

Archer is a fantastic player, but he would not fit in our line up at all with age, injuries and so forth. A young and fit Archer would slot into the side, but where he is now, he would not get a game at WC.

This is a fruitless discussion, its natural for North Supporters to stick up for one of their greatest sons, as it is natural for Eagle Supporters to act as they do.

Jacko was an outstanding player for you guys, to some extent still is, dont care what anyone says, but he is the only guy to play the game that had Wayne Carey's number.

As important as Jacko is for you guys, is as important Archie is for us. So to say Archer wouldnt get a game if he was an Eagles player is a bit naive, coz Jacko is not in a totally different situation himself. He is ageing and slowing down considerably, bit like Archie for us.

But do you think for one minute Woosha is going to drop Jacko, severely doubt it. Same would apply if Archie was an Eagle. There is a parallel there if you want to see it, but if you want to be blind to it, then so be it.
