Enough sucking up

Do you think the club did the right thing getting rid of Manton, given his career with Carlton, which, despite his weaknesses, you'd have to admit has been successful? Or would he never have made it without the kick up the pants of being sacked?

As balanced, rational individuals, I'm sure none of you will take into account that he obviously hates Sheedy and the club.

You would have to say that Manton and Carlton have been good for each other.

He has made the most of limited ability and given Carlton good service.

I don't regret letting him go at all. I doubt whether he would be a fixture in our best 22 if he were on our list anyhow. I'm glad for his sake that his career has been successful since leaving Essendon. I certainly don't think Essendon regrets letting him go.

Gotta admit his constant sniping at Sheedy and the club annoys me, the way he carries on you'd think he was the only bloke ever to be delisted. And no, i wasn't sorry to see him go, but i 'spose you're right....his career...despite his limitations has been successful. He did, after all play in a Premiership team, that's why i find his "outbursts" against Sheeds and Essendon in general irritating.

where's wally?

I thought we kept him for too long! He was very ordinary in a red and black jumper, and I have to agree with Dan......Carlton and Manton have been good for each other.

I cant believe he gets a consistent game at Carlton.

Obviously they have a lack of bigger defenders, not that he's that big.

I said it on another thread, he would have to be one of the worst AFL players getting a regular game. I rate babies like Henneman and Jacobs better than him.

If Essendon didnt delist him, he'd be coming off the bench for some VFL side by now. LOL

FR, I think you've hit the nail on the head, his delisting obsviously pissed him off if the way he has a go at Sheeds and the club is any indication and perhaps without that spur he wouldn't have been as successful as he has.

Glenn was and is an ordinary player with heart at best. Good on him for finding a spot in the 1995 team. Can't begrudge a player with heart a flag if things work for him.

But I think Dan's post says it all. Prior is twice as good as Manton and he struggled last year to get a spot in the (then) best defence in the league. Not that much has changed. I mean who would you take out for him?

Guy I really feel sad and rueful about was the bloke (irritatingly his name escapes me at the moment) who shattered his ankle - played back pocket for 3 or 4 years - good player. Got culled after 99. Peter????? Dan, a little help? Point being he was just very unlucky to miss out on a flag (or two). Manton, even at the club, would be a fringe player at best. That's way he had a dispuute with Carlton last year over not offering him more money (they are not mugs either the blues).

Anyway mate, got your fingers and toes crossed for the next two saturdays?

Peter Berbakov(sp?). He was a top player and was hitting some great form until he shattered his ankle and that was the last we saw of him. Along with Paul Hills, Berba will go down as one of the most unluckiest players. They could both blay a bit and were cut down in their primes.

Manton was, and still is, a dud. Good luck to him, but if he wasn't delisted, he'd be playing for the Manangatang 3rds.

Except that Manton plays in the best defence in the league;)

I think he's been a success, as I said above, but probably would not have been without the spur of being sacked, so no reason for Essendon to regret it (not that many of you do, obviously).

But I struggle to think of many AFL players who have achieved as much with so little ability:D

Hey Red,

Re: your defence....Silvagni is everything Manton's not. He is so clever going right to the line between what you can & can't do
.....a lot of times Manton just hangs on and hopes for the best.
I hope I get to see Silvagni and (this is a bummer) Kouta play next year.

But I think today you have other probs....I heard that the main snag at the Happy Hanger was that Monday was their day for doing the whites not the blues.

Also while we're on the subject of ex-Dons....what is the deal with Cummings? He obviously was a sharpshooter early for the Dons...what happened? He makes me laugh when he's interviewed so I have been watching out for him on the field but everytime they broadcast a Wet Toast game here...he is either not there.....or he comes on kicks a behind and is taken off (that happened twice lol!) Could older Bomber fans clue me in?

The chunky foward didn't go along with sheedy. This year, he has had some injuries at the weagles.

Got his flag, good luck to him, should have got over us a rseholing him years ago, still carries on like the fool he is,build a bridge manton and get over it.
While Lloyd has smashed silvagni over the years, manton has been able to do a reasonable job on The Great One....
