As much as I want Collingwood to win their games against teams that we are potentially up against for a final 8 berth, I still want them to lose as many as possible in the hope that they finish 5 instead of Sydney. If we scrape in at number 8 I'd much rather face Collingwood in Melbourne than Sydney in Sydney as our first final since 2001.

So, I'll be hoping (praying?) that Hawthorn, Sydney, Port and Freo all smash the Pies (but reluctantly hoping the Pies thump North, Essendon and St Kilda).

I think we should just try and get games into all of our kids in preparation for next year, look at the development of Jamison and Bower after there games late last year, we need more games into Hampson, Edwards, Hartlett, Armfield and Browne etc to help fast track there development and if we snag 8th spot by doing this then great.

I think there is plenty of benifit making the 8, if we can do it, by all means, do it.

Even if we do get smashed interstate week 1, its given the boys a taste of finals footy, and gives them more hunger to go even further next year.

Firstly I'd like to make the distinction between actually making the 8 (which is admittedly quite unlikely at this stage) and still playing to try and make the 8.

I don't place anywhere near as much weight on actually making the 8 and playing in a final as I place on the value of the motivation of still being a chance to make the 8 so late in the season.

And I don't see how either means we still shouldn't be getting games into Hampson, Edwards, Hartlett, Armfield and Browne (AND Austin!!!!), they are not mutually exclusive by any stretch.

Potential conflict could arise if say Wiggins is instrumental in a win against Sydney this week and Harts is BOG for the Ants on the weekend, or if Banno's hammy finally comes good and he plays a blinder for the Ants on the weekend and either Russel or Grigg have a shocker.

But right now we can still look to achieve both objectives as there is not really much conflict, if conflict arises in a week or two let's deal with it if and when it arises, a week is a long time in football and a win on Sunday puts finals right back up on the agenda...
