Funnily enough John Worsfold has worked with Goddard for a couple of months and says he is the obvious choice to captain, and that the playing list see him as their natural leader.

What would they know I guess, theyre in no position to judge unlike armchair experts who get offended by the sight of one man raising his voice at another man.

Pretty good track record for Woosha, made Ben Cousins captain didn't he?

Your club captain was going to hand the captaincy to BJ... :$

no he wasnt... people have that misconception and i'm not sure why... he said he was one of a number of people that would make good candidates

in any case... did he captain st kilda for that season?

I think its a bit harsh to be critical of BJ for leaving Saints. Any player that has satisfied the criteria to earn free agency deserves the right to look at their options to secure the future. The simple facts were that St Kilda offered 3 year where as Bombers offered 4. At that age, the extra year is critical cos its the last big contract he is going to get. As much as it hurts to lose a player, you can't really begrudge a player for making that call.

It's all obvious that everything has gone **** up since he got to the club. But none of that is his fault. He has represented the club magnificently - won the B&F, speaks well to the media, good with the supporters. Sure he doesn't do himself any favours sometimes with his demeanor, but nobody is perfect.

On another note, is it just me who finds it bemusing when in a thread of over 200 replies and 8000 views, that some dickhead thinks they are the first to make a "movies" or "pointing" reference about Goddard? Rapier like wit

Goddard for captain they're saying. don't like the way the bloke blames other team mates but is there anyone else they can appoint?
Exactly, most of Essendons ok players got the ban so it leaves you with some OK players and a bunch of really shit players!!! (No offence Essendon supporters)

BJ left the Saints for a couple reasons...

The big one was tha this last 2 seasons with the Saints were fairly average... certainly not his best, and well below expectation, yet despite this he demanded the captaincy and he demanded to be the highest paid player at the club.

Though the Watters regime was not the best, I think they were quite rightly a little miffed at BJ's conduct, and they (IMHO) correctly identified that they would perhaps get better value from BJ's moving on rather than keeping on a player with a suspect attitude that is past his best on major coin.

In addition to this however, I suspect BJ himself saw the writing on the wall in terms of where the club was at and decided that he didn't want to stay and be part of a rebuild, cop hard tags etc. opposed to being 1 amongst 4-5 good mids where he could use his natural talents as opposed to having to grind out the hard work. Hence I reckon he hiked up his demands above his value to
a) put the Saints off
b) see if anyone would bite

The guy wanted glory - he's been one of the highest paid bombers over the last few seasons. His performance has improved compared to his last few seasons at the Saints but I certainly don't think they've gotten value for me.
But I'm just ab itter Saints fan I guess

Split the season in 4 and let Goddard, Baguley, Zaharakis and Daniher each have a go at it.

It's going to be a long year for Essendon and either Watson or Heppell will be captain next year so there's no point putting the weight of captaincy on one player.

Daniher hahaha
