I don't think we'd be an attractive proposition for Goddard, but if by some chance he wanted to come to our club I'd give a fair bit away to get him. Although not overly quick, he's not a slouch and his kicking ability is in the elite bracket. So, while he doesn't cover the outside runner criteria, he makes up for any shortcoming in that area by his superior ball use, ability to read the play and his versatility. I don't doubt that once he turns 29-30 he could have another three years in his body as a 50 goal a season forward that could have a stint floating back.
If we needed to give away a first round draft pick to get him I would. If we needed to throw in a second or third rounder on top of that I'd definitely consider it as well. You don't often get a chance to put a player of such quality on your list, and while we may not challenge while he's in the early part of prime he's still going to add a lot of value post 28-29 years of age.
I really believe the turnaround time to challenge again, with solid list management, will shorten over the next few years. If we're planning on being in a position to have another tilt within 2-3 years then a guy with Goddards ability could have a part to play.
But, it's all pie in the sky stuff to be honest.

I've got a good memory. But I'd still prefer Goddard over Lake. Just my opinion.
