Cue the old " barracked for Richmond all his life posts and still has pictures of Lids up on his wall rants "

By the way I think he'd rather dick punch himself than come to Richmond . Sad but true. In saying that if he did come we'd be a flag chance in 2-3 years. Awesome player is Goddard.

Your ****ing with me right??

I don't mean to be rude, but he was stated, MANY times that he wants a flag, and will only go to a flag chance side.
E.G. Collingwood, Hawthorn, Carlton, Geelong & maybe still St. Kilda.

So, why would he come to us. Regardless if we could afford him he wont want to come.

He's a Carlton boy as it is.

The pre-season is really getting to you ay?

I can find a 16 year old school girl ... That goes for pretty high currency over there right?
That actually made me laugh.

i dont think we will (and maybe even shouldnt try) get him but all this too old talk with goddard is crap. he turns 27 mid way through next year, and could easily give a club another 5-6 years, and youde expect at least 2-3 of them to be extremely high quality. if people are so pessimistic or have such little faith that they dont think we will be challenging at least for top 4 within 5-6 years, then they might as well go follow another club.

Seriously, I don't understand the 'He barracked for Carlton line'.

I mean, I'm pretty sure 95% of kids get drafted by a team they never supported. Hell, 20-30% of them probably get drafted by a club they despise.

But how often do you see any players saying 'Yeah, I was a ## supporter as a kid so I wanna get traded to them'. Especially after embracing their current club, becoming one of their best players, putting everything on the line (broken nose and collarbone in the 09 GF) and almost single-handedly winning us a premiership last year in what would have been the greatest mark of all time...

Still give a shit about the side you supporter as a kid 10 years ago?

And for what it's worth, I would much rather see BJ in the yellow and black.

How does Cotchin and Martin sound for a trade? :D

Its irrelevant, I agree. To play for a side would override any experiences of watching a club as a kid. You ride the dissapointments harder and experience the joys more when you are in the kitchen.

I remember Tim Watson being reminded that he was a Richmond supporter and he just shrugged his shoulders as if that was the past and it had nothing to do with how he feels about them today which was nothing.

St Kilda really need to get their new coach soon though so they can set out the direction of the club to players who are going to be pitched from other clubs. He wont leave but I think its a bit perilous to have players in the dark as to who will be defining their football for the rest of their careers if they decide to stay.

Could not agree more with this post .

But Rusty, we have established Dick Punching is the way of the future. If anything, that could be our platform to land this big fish. Just get Lids and Luke McG over to his joint, and they could start a circle dick punch. He'd be wrapt to see our committment, and this (plus the fact that he had a Lids poster on his wall as a kid) could get him over the line.

In order to get a player like Goddard we would have to perform really well in 2012 and make top 8 and show the potential to be pushing towards a premiership.

NO! Not going anywhere, but if he did it would be GWS so the saints could get some valuable compensation!

How about we try sticking to the plan, no shortcuts, this trade would cost us a lot more than its likely and obvious benefits, one of the new clubs can afford to give enough to the Saints to make this happen we just don't have the depth to be involved in trades like this, unless the player really wanted to play for us, then the PSD is always a chance if they are out of contract.

If we were to get him he would need to stay put until the end of next year. If the Saints slide furthur down the ladder and we jump up into the 8, we could grab him for nothing through Free Agency with all the extra cap room we have (assuming of course FA comes in next year).

The Saints are treading a very fine line IMO
Next year they are likely to just have him walk to his club of choice as with their salary cap issues there is no way they can offer the kind of money he can get elsewhere.
The side is likely to decline again next year and have very little that would make him want to stay.
