Of course.

Do you think it is a good move by Essendon? I have always loved him as a player but now that he is playing for Essendon it seems bigfooty doesn't rate him at all, I would like to know how good St Kilda supporters think he could be for us.

I think he'll be very good for the dons. Not 09' 10' good but still very good.

We didn't tag Goddard we played Watson head to head with him. Your'e talking shit.

Did I say you tagged him idiot? No I didn't I said you blokes said he was a sook who couldn't handle a tag. Learn how to read before you shoot off at the mouth you twat.

No I'm gutted. He is one of my favourite players. But I still think he played his best footy for st kilda.

So you're gutted that someone you believe to have played his best footy already is leaving your club?

And I was just marvelling at the fact that the same essendon supporters that bag him every time we play them now think he is the second coming of Christ.

That's your perception. We're happy to land a big player for once.. I'm pretty sure nobody's claiming anything religious. You tend to talk down players on opposition teams.. ESPECIALLY the good ones. Kinda like what a lot of Saints supporters are now doing.. strangely enough.

absolutely stoked... we've been through a lot over the last decade us Essendon supporters..

- Injury effected every year
- Watched the Blues, Saints, Pies and Hawks capitalise on the priority pick system yet when it came our turn they changed the rule and we ended up with Leroy Jetta instead of perhaps a Selwood or Boak
- The guy we did pick they call the next Riewoldt or Browne yet he goes on to play 2 out of the next 6 seasons
- We watched as Judd and Burgoyne didn't even look at us
- We endured a coach who had lost the team, a team so far behind the 8 ball in terms of development and progression.
- Then when it comes our turn to bring a quality father son in, the rule happens to have changed where now we sacrifice our first round pick
- Just so happens there is a gun mid Josh Caddy who would love to come to us, yet we have nothing of value to secure a 2nd year player
- With all teams having top pick mids.. there presented no avenue for us to obtain talent without losing something we wanted to keep or bottoming out

Do we need an experienced, versatile, big bodied quality player who can help win the ball in the clenches, take a big mark, kick a goal but also go back and steady the ship? Throw in that he is a bit aggro..

Do we want? Hell freakin yes we do.

850K you say? Let's see, everyone is signed up... and we can still afford it...

And we don't have to give up anyone?

Star players leaving one Victorian club for another for money. Unheard of.

Fresh start may just be what he needs...

We'll take it... at least Jobe will have some help...

Why would we say that if we didn't tag him, you are clearly making things up here

Cause it's common knowledge most teams do tag him. We don't tag Stanton so does that mean I can't say Stanton struggles with a tag? So many idiots.

Cause he bled for us and I wanted to see him retire in a saints guernsey. Is that so hard to believe?

Listening to Watters tonight I don't think they are dissapointed, I think they have been perfectly prepared to let him go. Waters cited not just this years form but last years and pretty much said that this is Brendan's standard as a player. That is what the Saints believe. They do not believe he will be better than he has shown the last 2 years so no way could they offer more than they did.
If you look at Goddard's career 2010's form was an aberration, the other 10 years haven't produced good seasons through 22 rounds.

Watters absolutely caned him. Said hed been middle of the road for the past two years.

He is a good player, just not an 800k player. Essendon must think they are a real shot at a flag to make a move like this. Last club to make a similar move was Carlton and we all now how that's going
According to your coach both he and Brendon reckon his last 40 games were ".....mediocre and middle of the road"

The Dons have paid top dollar for a player who has been mediocre for two years.

Reckon you guys have done alright. A first round pick and freed up a truck load of recruiting money.

It's also interesting how the Bombers have compromised their development from within and not paying big dollars for imports strategy so often enunciated by Thompson. Getting a bit desperate down Essendon way perhaps.

Desperate move by Hird, beginning of the end.
Is Goddard Hird's Fevola?

Except Voss has somehow dragged himself out of that mire. Could have been so much worse.

I think you'd find that he was talking about developing within rather than trading kids for established players.

We didn't have to trade anyone for Goddard.

Brad Ottens pretty much won Geelong 3 flags, you should know more than anyone getting a big name player can be very successful

Nup! He suggested he'd follow the Geelong model which included not importing big-buck recruits.

If Goddard's form doesn't show vast improvement from the last two years (based on his admission and Watters take) there are bound to be players at Essendon earning way less who'll be more than miffed.

Brad Ottens wasn't paid anything like the scale you're paying Goddard. And that was in 2004 way before we embarked on our current strategy.

This. We've got most of our list locked away and can afford to bring in a gun to give us the boost we need to get into the finals. Why wouldn't we do it? Just save the cap space and let it sit there? You don't earn interest on it.

And comparing it to Fevola. LOL. That move was a million miles away from this one.

you traded two first rounders for him and I'm sure he was paid a lot. Don't worry man, picking on Essendon is cool, no matter what Hird and co do it will be criticised by peanuts like yourself.

If you suscribe to the theory that Bombers are paying slightly overs to drag him away from the Saints, it is pretty depressing looking at his 2010 stats versus 2011/12. In that two years his output has dropped off in a big way. Stats arent everything but here is a few clues:

Handballs 351 (2010) down to 187 (2012)
Kicks 367 (2010) down to 300 (2012)
Marks 172 (2010) down to 121 (2012)
Goals 24 (2010) down to 12 (2012)
Tackles 88 (2010) down to 60 (2012)

If you check 2011, it is halfway down to 2012.

Across the board his output has dropped by a third.

Watters is spot on in his analysis and Essendon football club are operating opposite to the Moneyball (Sydney regime). Hird has purchased the hype.
