Sonds good mate. Queenstown which I mentioned, is in Central Otago, although Otago is a fairly big area.

Martinborough is in the Wairarapa which i also mentioned, so obviosly you've done a bit of homework.

These 2 areas are on different islands and unless you fly from the very south to the north, you'll end up going thru Marlborough as well.

Hawkes Bay is north of Martinborough and besides wineries the area is known for its art deco architecure after having to rebuild after a large earthquake a few years back. Betya 10 that you'll experience a nice little quake sometime when you're in NZ ;)

We are thinking of going up the riverland in May.

2 adults, 2 kids.

Anyone have any recomendations of where to stay. (prefer seperate room for the kids)

anywhere upstream of Lock 1 because those bastards have all the water

We're planning a family holiday for the end of this year to keep my year 12 student son away from schoolies on the Gold Coast. We've told him he can pick where we go. So far we're considering FNQ, Fiji or Vanuatu. Just want nice beaches and lots of activities for the lads to do on the water.

I'm heading off this Friday from Sydney to....... Sunny Adelaide. We head to Wagga for a night on the gas then a fairly long haul to Loxton Saturday and ease into the Adelaide Hills Sunday arvo. Getting hitched at Penny's Hill Saturday the 17th spending a week at Maslins ;) then heading to Melbourne for Australia Day at the Oz Open. Unfortunately heading back to work by the 29th of January. Driving each way to get a bit of a break and see some more of the great brown land.

Looking forward to spending a couple of weeks in Adelaide for the first time since 98 and will try to get down to Mecca and see the boys train.

Maybe see a few of you there?

Just came back from Pt Lincoln, had a pretty good time. Nice town. Real scenic and one I could definitely go back to any time.

Ate at the Marina Hotel for dinner the first night. Good seafood, great location. Looks similar to West Lakes with the houses backyard backing onto the marina/river. Done up real nicely.

Had breakfast at Cafe Chinos which was decent enough. Had dinner twice at Del Giornos. Great pizza, but give the steak a miss.

Went shark cage diving which was an experience. Unfortunately no white pointers so we got a 50% discount voucher for a return trip which is great from the company doing the dives. The 2 1/2 hour boat ride out to Neptune Islands is something I wont forget. The most rocky ride I can imagine being in outside of a hurricane. Just non stop gut wrenching pounding wave after wave for 150 minutes. 10 of the 20 people on the boat ended up vomiting because of it and a few were sick all day because of the ride out there. Thankfully I dont get motion sickness but even I was getting pretty close to munting by the end of it. Saw a few bronze whalers and a mako but no white pointers. Must have all been patrolling the Adelaide coastline. The boat ride back was a hell of a lot smoother and a pity that it couldnt have been like that on the way out.

Went to Coffin Bay, great little spot. They had the farmers and fishermans market which was great. Had a dozen oysters straight out the sea and shucked in front of me...$12 - absolute bargain for those big quality coffin bay oysters. Great atmosphere. Also played mini golf - great course! Also did Whalers Way and some adventuring south of Lincoln...some absolute goldmine beaches down there. Spotless sand, no seaweed and crystal clear waters.

Only downside was not seeing some great whites.

And no, it was not me that lit these on the way out of Lincoln yesterday:

Homes, factories destroyed by Port Lincoln bushfire

Two houses and two fish processing factories have been destroyed by a fire raging out of control near Port Lincoln.

Neighbouring tuna factories belonging to the Lukin and Stehr families on Proper Bay Rd, just south of Port Lincoln, were gutted this afternoon.

Sheds, boarding kennels, a local winery and two domestic homes were also destroyed.

No animals were killed in the boarding kennels fire - the four dogs that were staying there were safely removed to the town's RSPCA shelter.

The CFS said the fire, which by 3pm had grown to 200 hectares, is travelling in a southeasterly direction towards Tulka.

However, a wind change forecast for this evening could push the fire back towards Port Lincoln.

The fire started at about 11.45am and is burning near Kathai Drive and Blue Fin Rd, about 2km from the centre of Port Lincoln.

A CFS spokeswoman said the fire was burning in a southerly direction towards Tulka. Winds gusting up to 60km/h from the northwest are pushing it in the town's direction as the temperature rises above 43C.

At 4.45pm the winds had gradually begun changing direction.

"The head of the fire is quite intense and firefighters are fighting from the sides," the spokeswoman said.

She said embers may threaten properties in the area.

The temperature at Port Lincoln Airport today soared up to 43C.

Proper Bay Rd has been closed to southbound traffic.

you know its not that often that there is a downside to not seeing a shark. i think on news.com.au they had a gallery on sharks today and showed one biting through a cage. there are so many exhilarating things i'd like to do but putting me in a cage and teasing a great white is not one of them. if you do ever do it i'd love to see the pics

Got back from Melbourne this arvo. Had a great time at the cricket and I've got to say the cricket in Melbourne shits all over Adelaide when it comes to the atmosphere and general rowdiness of the crowd. The most interesting part was having 4 Americans in front of us which had no idea about the game and it turned out they were here working for ESPN covering the tennis so I was able to have a good yarn with them about the NFL.
