Well Hips Dont Lie ran 2nd today, albeit a long way behind, and she's no where near the better Melbourne ones like Reaan and All American. I reckon those two are still in with a good shot. They'll most likely be swooping too which is a good thing in a major 2yo race.

ran 6th in the diamond after being blocked for a run beaten 2.5 lenghts.

beaten by nearly 7 today.

your best are changing racing direction with 4+ lengths to find.

save the float costs. ;)

Heavily-backed Golden Slipper favourite Amelia's Dream will not run in the $3.5 million race after pulling up severely lame from her spectacular record-breaking win at Rosehill.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly smashed her rivals to win the Group Two Silver Slipper by more than six lengths and firm from $8 to $2.80 for the world's richest race for two-year-olds on April 19.

She ran the 1100m in 1:02.90, the fastest time ever run by a two-year-old over the distance at Rosehill.

But just hours after the victory, Amelia's Dream was a sorry sight with her near foreleg heavily bandaged and she was transported to the Randwick Equine Centre for treatment to what could be a career-threatening injury.

"She is out of the Golden Slipper," Waterhouse said.

"I fear she has fractured something, the injury is terrible.

"It looks like she has damaged something near her fetlock.

"They've taken her straight to the Randwick Equine Centre and we will have to just wait and see how bad it is."

Rival trainers stood in awe after the Silver Slipper, with most form experts believing she was a shoo-in for the big race.

Waterhouse immediately rang England-based owner Richard Pegum to give him the bad news.

Amelia's Dream won her first start by more than nine lengths on a heavy Canterbury track late last month.

"In racing you have to take the good with the bad," Waterhouse said.

"I'm gutted, it's a terrible feeling because I know how good this filly is.

"I felt Amelia's Dream and Sebring would fight out the Slipper."

Stablemate Sebring was the Golden Slipper favourite until a few days ago but was displaced when punters came for Amelia's Dream.

TAB Sportsbet suspended betting on the race when informed of the injury.

Terrible news, probably could have shit the slipper in.

Didn't think her racing style was suited to the Slipper. I reckon she would have been swamped by those that can settle better.

I agree with your sentiment ricketts. Did Dance Hero win on the speed?
I prob wouldnt have said that she couldnt win, but it is very hard

Diamond and Slipper winners:

2008 - Reaan - ?
2007 - Sleek Chassis - Forensics
2006 - Nadeem - Miss Finland
2005 - Undoubtedly - Stratum
2004 - Alinghi - Dance Hero
2003 - Rodean/Kusi - Polar Success
2002 - Bel Esprit - Callaway Gal.

Italics are the ones that led all the way i think. There are a few there but most winners in the 2yo majors come from at least just behind the speed or from even further back.
It's just something that i think happens that way in these races, and we also know Waterhouse likes her horses leading the whole way usually.
Winners look more impressive when leading the whole way, and usually win by bigger margins too (yes i'm aware of the time Amelia's Dream ran.)
Makes no difference now though with the injury, but it would still have been good to watch to see if Amelia's Dream could blow them all away from the front. I was prepared to say no.

I'm from Western Australia and am not biased towards Vic, SA or NSW 2 year olds

BUT

saying that Vic or SA horses have no chance is rediculous.

You guys sound just as bad as that little woofta who sits on the panel of Racing Retro.

Vic horses IMO have the wood on NSW 2 year olds this year.

Hips Don't Lie - Clearly not in the top 5 Vic 2 year olds. Beats home a couple of nice Sydney 2 year olds (Glowlamp/Dubai to Sydney).

Obviously she was beat 7 lenghts by Amelia's Dream, but Amelia's Dream would have beaten anything by at least 5 or 6, including Sebring.

Sugar Babe goes up to Sydney, in the need of a run. Sits at the back in a slowly run race and wins. Go figure.

I'm on Reann for the Slipper. I hope they start All American too. Look out for the Vic quinella in the slipper and stick it to the Sydney siders.

The $15 for Reean in the Diamond was silly money, the $9 for him in the Slipper is even worse. Will run a great race at that price surely. I can't understand why it is still being doubted? Would finish all over the likes of Sebring I feel.

Not all horses can fire as well going the other way around, this may be an issue for a few of the Melbourne horses.
