I think holding Cameron against his possession stats is a little harsh. He doesn't get a lot of the ball at the moment but his presence in the forward line is enough to create scoring opportunities. Whether it's putting his body on an opposition player or just getting his hand in the way to cause an errant disposal. When he's there he helps create opportunities. When he does get the ball he generally does something with it. That 40m pass to Laird was a joy to watch. Rory didn't have to break stride!

Charlie Cameron may not have the fitness base of a Rory Sloane or a Patrick Dangerfield but he is learning the right and wrong things to do at the moment. Every game he plays this year, will be worth 2 or 3 next games next year; simply for the experience he will gain.

Personally and I said this many weeks ago, I would drop him for the Perth game and then bring him back the week after for another block of 3 games. I'd have him play 12 AFL games this year and then have him monitor and work on the things he's not building on.

Right now, I don't think he should judged on possession count as he is still contributing in many other areas. As long as he looks like he belongs and he does right now - he stays in the team.

Give him 12 games this year and then another summer to work on his fitness and add another 5 to 6 kgs of muscle and he should be ready to go for another season of AFL football. We should be looking towards the future and gambling on players we believe will have a massive impact on what the team will look like in 18 months time. That's the only way we will jump from 12th to 4th without the top draft picks.

Sticking with the same old same old hasn't exactly got us anywhere over the past 8 odd years.

A couple of times his chases led to a direct turnover, on one occasion the Suns player kicked it out on the full. His closing pace is great, it certainly adds pressure to the opposition coming out of our forward line. And the lad can stick a tackle - he could teach a few of his more experienced team mates a thing or to.

And the postion of small forward equates to missing from action for considerable time during the game, it is just the nature of the position. But when he does get it, boy does he look polished.

And the one the one 3 weeks ago vs collingwood!

He brings that implied defensive pressure whenever he is around the ball.

Add that to Betts and the defenders trying to get the ball out of our forward 50 have a difficult time.

All of this I duly noted in my previous post. The only aspect of his game which I have questioned so far is his endurance - the one aspect which is easiest for a player to rectify over time. This is not a criticism of Cameron as a player, because he brings many other positives to the table and it's common for 1st year players to lack endurance.

Right now, the facts are that he his outputs from his 2nd & 3rd games combined is only marginally more than he achieved in his first game. 13 disposals in his 1st game, 13 disposals in the 2nd & 3rd combined. 5 tackles in his 1st game, 7 in his 2nd & 3rd combined.

I love what I saw from him in his debut game - but he needs to do more than he has in the 2nd & 3rd games if he wants to hold his position in the team for much longer. He's an excitement machine, but he's currently out of the game for far too long. How many of you would be happy with a player being retained after having just 7 & 6 disposals in his last 2 games, if he hadn't got you excited with that debut performance?

I agree that he will benefit immensely from the experience he's gaining now. I like his prospects in the longer term, but right now, I'm questioning whether he has the endurance to continue much longer at this level, in his 1st year.

I think it boils down to his position. If he was a mid then clearly yes we could expect more.

However he plays a position where we are looking very much at quality over quantity. Even at SANFL level he did not get consistently high numbers.

He is an impact player. Now true not many touches Sunday, but created to lovely chances for himself, one just missed and one poster. The glorious assist to Laird. Creating a number of turnovers in out i50.

Had he nailed his 2 goals - his game is a pass easily.

He is a player who can really hurt with 10 touches at this point in his development - sure as he gets more experienced that could push up to 15 touches - but it won't ever be much more than that IMO

The good:

Don't argue

Going back and watching the replay. Sloane was back to his marking and gut running self, didn't butcher it quite as much as Danger and Thommo...Thommo should just kick long every time as his handballs and short kicks are woeful.
Man what a star Eddie Betts is. He is going to be massive in the second half of the year along with Tex. He's got now in Tex what he used to have when Fev was at Carlton-a genuine big forward who is footy smart and has all the skills and movement. Eddie and CC are going to form a dynamic small forward pairing the likes of we've never seen at the club.
With Pets going down Charlie is in for the long haul.
