Waaaaaaay OTT. Agree he shouldn't be captain anymore but hes more than capable of playing a role in our best 22
VB would only be our 2nd best tagger, but he could assume the role if we want to move the better player in Kerridge into a more attacking or different role (i.e. HB, mid or HF).

Conversely VB may sneak into the 22 as a HBF'er in an accountable role allowing Hendo, Smith to attack.

Or he may have a role as a defensive HF…this is prob my preferred option of the 3 if he can push out the incumbent.

Id say HBF/HFF is the go with bursts in the guts. He had a shocker last year no doubt but hes in our best 22, low down for sure but still there.

Captain ?? No probably not as I think the 2 guys are growing into the role. Step aside to concentrate on his game. Guys can still admire his work ethic and professionalism without him being skipper

I don't think VB is in our best 22 unless he's in career best form. He could replace Wright though, if he's not going well when VB's ready.

Im so happy about the siren issue? Are you not all? It will dominate post match discussions on Monday?

The vision will be showed over and over again.
The goal was easily the best one of the year. I love watching it as much as I enjoyed watching the vision of last years two minutes final against the Roos.

CC "moonwalks" out of trouble, has the poise to find Kedge, Kedge has the composure to fly through I50, handball over the top and JJ scores.

The best part of that goal is that all those guys should be at our Club for the next 4-5 years.

It is stupid that the game still hasn't worked out the siren issue but for once things were unfair in our favour

I swear in the full match replay on AFL.com that you can faintly hear the siren after Jenkins has kicked it, and is running and celebrating the goal. Though I may just be hearing what I want to hear.

Respect your opinion. Many people agree with you, but the vast majority of people I've spoken to don't....both Crows and non-Crows supporters.
Most people I've chatted to about Van Berlo reckon he's clearly a nice enough bloke, but should not only not be our Captain, but shouldn't be in the side.
Can I prove that I'm right and you're wrong? Not at all. Have I heard more opinions about him than you? No idea.
Just saying what I've heard and what I think about him....VB. No more, no less.

I think its moot - I doubt he'll come back at all after such a serious injury - and if he does he's at huge risk of re-injury. Sadly I think his AFL days are numbered if not over.

No-one will ever accuse you of being an optimist that's for sure!! :(

Sorry Bicks - didn't mean to appear so negative - but it seems to me that people are underestimating the seriousness of VBs injury - believe me a complete rupture such as this is serious - and that the re-rupture rates of Archilles are high particularly as you basically can't run or jump without it - which is a problem for an AFL footballer. And as I've just been talking about with Froggy in another thread its not my area of expertise and I really hope I'm wrong - but given the long recovery and lack of news on his progress I worry I'm right. He's a great bloke and sadly it was such a stupid accident. But it won't surprise me if he doesn't come back or if he does its very short-lived. :(

We looked better because our opponent wasn't coached by Paul Roos. If we played Melbourne again we may have won but it would have looked just as bad as the last Melbourne game.

Dont think I could disagree more. Not sure what game you were watching, but we looked a lot better out there Thursday night and actually appeared to have some systematic approach to what we were doing.

Most of the commentators on the footy show don't seem to actually understand the siren rules. The quater/game ends when the umpire hears the siren and raises his arms. Now if you watch the vision the clock hits 0 just as Jenkins is about the kick ( note he has not kicked it yet) there is no way the umpire would have herd the siren if he could have and then raised his arms by the time Jenkins had kicked it. The idiots Lloyd Eddie and Nathan brown) are just going on the fact that the clock hit 0 before the kick was made, although I have herd a quote from Eddie stating the clock hit 0 the siren went the ball sailed 25 m to Jenkins when then kicked it, which is complete bullshit .

This is irrelevant anyway. The AFL came out on the Friday and said the time on the television broadcast is provided by the broadcaster, and is not the official time the AFL timekeepers use.

I think the point is that Melbourne play in such a way as to make themselves difficult to play against. They might be an ordinary side, but they are able to stifle the game to bring the other side down to their level. Despite their limitations, they make themselves hard to beat and if you do win, it will probably be ugly.

We were able to play with some system and structure against Collingwood because they let us - they aren't as good at stopping an opponent from playing as Melbourne are. Now Collingwood have other strengths which makes them a far better team than Melbourne overall, but I have little doubt that if we played Melbourne again, we would face a lot of the same issues as we did the first time.

Well that's stupid, how hard would it be to use the official time. Pretty sure Eddie was watching from home so that was the clock he was using as reference.

Very true, and I dont disagree with what you are saying at all, its just against the Demons we honestly looked like a bunch of headless chickens that were playing and NFL style 'get the ball forward and make ground' approach. Against the pies, we were able to repel their attacks and then set up our defence to run the ball out, we put them under immense pressure (92 tackles), most likely resulting in them looking like a poor side out there, and we looked to hit up the leads of Tex etc when going forward and actually have some sort of system to our forward entries. Players seemed to be a lot better positioned as well, having JJ and Pods as our deepest forward and allowing Betts/Cameron/Wright to be front and square of the contest rather than the other way round, which has been bewildering the last few weeks.
