Shane Birss is a late inclusion for tonight's game.

I just want to say best of luck to a bloke who did his absolute best for the Western Bulldogs. He's one of those rare players who leaves your club that you hope does really well at his new club. I'd be very suprised if theres a bulldog supporter out there who would disagree.

I would have prepared Armitage in the first place ...

but good luck nevertheless - you are now a SAINTER !!!

Yep, think most Doggies fans would be happy to see Birssy thrive, good honest player who will now give his all for the Saints.

Might have picked yourselves up a bargain, hope to see him get plenty of seniors time.

How did Birss go tonite? Where did he play? Much ground time?

I'm not sure how much game time he had, but unfortunately he strained a calf and will probably miss three weeks

He did okay. However, like all of our midfielders, he was well and truly beaten. Gave away an undisciplined free kick pushing Simon Black in the back as he kicked a behind on the run, giving him a set shot that he coverted. Ball use looked reasonable. Need to see more of him to judge properly.

But did kick a very nice rare goal for your guys;)

He hasn't really done much yet but it's early days. I think he'll spend a bit of time at the Scorpions and it's up to him to prove that he's worthy of a spot. To me he looks like a solid player but I don't really see any particular strengths that separates him from the rest. At this stage he's probably just outside our best 22 but if the team performs like they did last night we don't really have a best 22.

It's refreshing to see so many of his former supporters have an interest in his development although at the same time it seems like an acknowledgement that he wasn't good enough to make it there. Any player good enough to make it but who chooses to leave isn't usually afforded the same amount of goodwill. Maybe I'm a little harsh but it makes me wonder why things will be any different at Saints.

Well in truth, he wouldn't have a got game this year for us. To many similar players fighting for his spot, and at the moment guys like Higgins/Addison and Ray need to be picked over him. I really wanted Birss to turn it on for you guys, because he wasn't delisted/traded because he's hopeless. He always tried hard, and its hard to knock a player for that.
