I’m not going anywhere: Richo

As he prepares to return from a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for the last three matches, Tigers’ favourite son Matthew Richardson has declared he’s ‘not going anywhere’ and hopes to have a new contract signed in the near future.
Rarely do players show their hand so willingly in the middle of contract negotiations, but ‘Richo’ is no ordinary player. His loyalty to the club is unquestionable and all his goals in football revolve around Punt Rd – a Richmond premiership and life membership of the club.
Richardson said while he wasn’t involved in the ongoing contract negotiations, he hoped it would be finalised in the near future.
‘I believe that things are going OK and hopefully something can happen sooner rather than later, but obviously I want to stay at Richmond,’ he said.
‘There’s no point me looking elsewhere, this is the club I’ve played all my career so I’d like to hope that we can get it done soon.’
Richardson expects to play this Sunday against Adelaide at Colonial Stadium after being ‘very close’ to playing last week.
‘Since the game people have said that I was never going to play. But I was definitely a chance. They gave me every chance to prove I was fit and in the end, I probably did prove I was fit to play,’ he said.
‘But I guess with the re-occurrance of these type of injuries over the last few years, they just thought, “Well maybe we need to get another full week’s training under my belt”. That’s what we’ll do this week and if I get through everything, I’m definitely a 100% starter this week.’
He said it was vital for the club to even up its win-loss ratio back this week after successive losses to Fremantle and Hawthorn, but acknowledge the Crows present a real challenge.
‘They’ve got a great midfield, so we really need to at least break even there. If we can do that, we’re a good chance of winning,’ he said.
‘We need to get back to 50-50 - if you sink down to 2-4 it really starts to put some pressure on, so it’s vitally important we win this week.’
I would be amazed if Richo ever decided to leave the Tigers unless something astronomical happened.
