hey guys sorry if this has been done to death and you can delete if it has, but is goose on track for round 1? im not too sure if he has played NAB either. obviously love the pre season

thanks guys, and good luck in 2009

Thanks for the well wishes.

By all reports, Goose has been playing in VFL practice matches, instead of participating with St.kilda. He did play in the NAB cup opener against Brisbane by memory. This would suggest he is a fair way of the pace and will not be considered for round one. This should be the course of action, as he was rushed into too quickly for the senior side in 2008.

As much as I would love to see Goose up and running in full flight, I do not think he has a future in the backline. Just is not the player he once was. The only possible future I could see with Goose is playing in the forward line. Unfortunley, he is not a great kick for goal, which does not help.

Just my two cents.

Is definitely young enough to recover from an injury like that. May be the 3rd tall but that suits him better anyway as he can run off to use his booming kick.

I know it's hard to recall Luke Penny in the backline but with him and Max Goose dominated. Fingers are crossed Gilbert is our future FB and Lynch our 3rd tall forward.

Goose played in the game against Brissy and then played against the doggy's, hasnt played a nab game since then but playing with the zebs.
they brought bj back in round 3 or 4 last year and they brought goose back around the same time last year so would expect him to be back at afl level around then.
Goose needs a year to get back into the swing of things just like brown(richmond)
I dont know if you actually watched goose at full flight but i would have rated him as one of the best kicks in the team.

well thanks for all your help guys, i do love watching him play, and would love to see him get close to where he was when Penny was around.

Hopefully we see you guys in the top 4 again, and i hope you guys can have some luck with injuries for once.

enjoy the year ahead.

Would love to see him back up for Round 1, but I probably thinks he needs a bit more time. The last thing we want to do is rush him back and have him break down again. Maybe get a few more VFL games under his belt and try to get him back Round 4-5?

My understanding of his "break down" last year was that it was stress fractures. I think that these occur when a major bone is healing. As part of the healing process some of the strength is "robbed" from the bones surrounding the original break. Time is the healing factor. He has probably had plenty of healing time for this sort of break and he is very unlikely to get stress fractures from the stress fractures. So if he is judged fit enough to play ( and he has had a good pre-season from all accounts ) by the staff at StKilda then so be it.

If he only plays 4 or 5 games this year and that gets him closer to his best i wouldn't be complaining.

Think St. Kilda has finally got it's shit right with injuries and am happy to back the staff with their managing of Matt.
