I don't think Gardi is a permanent forward option - has good running ability but not quick off the mark.

Unless they are going to do something with BJ and/or Sam F, I think it is time the Goose was let loose.

They are the only options for a strait swap but there are other options.

Goose in the backline - Goddard or Gilbert as a forward ( Gilbert played pre-season as a forward )
Miles in the backline ( we don't need to be horribly tall against the dogs ) - Goddard or Gilbert as a forward.

Gwilt in for Kosi.

I prefer the first of my options.

Surely he's due. Who does he have to root to get a game? Seriously, the bloke was almost an All Australian. If Egan gets fit, he'll get a chance at Geelong so why should it be any different with Maguire at Moorabbin. That's my only quandry about this year, so all in all it's been good but I'd love to see big "Moose" get a game.;)

Yeah - lets see if he can Root the Bulldogs.

Love to see the Goose come in this week for Kosi. Not sure how he would go as a forward but now would be a great time to experiment and see how he goes before the finals. Also would be a great opportunity to get him to his 100th game.

I guess they may also look at using either McEvoy or Gardiner up forward as well. Although Gardiner is better in the ruck, floating forward occassionally. Gwilt, Goddard or Lynch would be other possible options too.

Don't think we should mess around with our backline by playing Gilbert, Blake or Fisher forward.

Matty to come in :thumbsu:

Those with the stomach to revisit why Matty has had his extended holiday:

I'd play BJ at FF this week and bring in a midfielder/running player for Kosi Armo or Geary. McGuire is not the answer as a forward in the AFL

100% agreed. Besides, I don't think any of them would be any value up forward anyhow. Goose could play pretty well up there I reckon though.

I bet Maguire doesnt get picked this week. I bet Hudgton will come in for Zac and Gards will come in for Kos, and then they will rotate between Gards up forward and in the ruck with King and McEvoy. We always go tall up forward against the dogs.

Goose is cooked, lets move on from him, this year has shown us its about team not individuals. This push from fans to bring him back is very old saints, not 2009 saints. Bring back Ball, Max and maybe Gwilt, give Gardi another week off.
Trade Goose for a second rounder this year.

We would be crazy to trade him without giving him a shot.
I have a feeling this will be our week, though against the dogs, the suggestion that we bring in a running player instead is not a bad one.

Not sure that any of our ruckmen are capable of being an effective forward while they get the full attention of someone the caliber of Lake.

Sam Gilbert trained as a forward during the pre-season. Yes we have a good backline, but we have to play someone forward if we want to score.

Gilbo's too valuable as a backman to move him permanently forward. We might have to move him back and then we could get caught out up forward. We've played without Kos before with Roo the only tall, Im sure the forward line will hold thier own what ever way they decide to go.

Obviously the coach disagree's or he wouldn't have trained him in the forward line last summer.
We have Begley, Miles, Hudgeton, Maguire, Geary all able to perform roles in the backline. If Sam is the best option for a forward it is worth a try.
Best option could be to bring in Maguire, who can possibly play forward as well. That would give an option to change during the game if it was going pear shaped.
Yes Roo as a sole tall forward has been done before, and has always looked very flimsy. He can be tagged out of the game and then we rely on Milne and Schneider to work miracles.

Thats what i was saying. He can probably play forward and Ross tried him there, no doubt they want alot of players that can play different positions, but he is too good a defender to put him at FF.

im shattered Goose ins't in this week. Why the match committee think gwilt is better than goose..no clue!! Goose has kicked 12 goals in the VFL this year and gwilt has kick 6 in total for both AFL & VFL??

I hope goose doesn't leave coz we will need him after max retires this yr.:0(

i have a feeling that max will be a late withdrawl and goose will come in for him. no inside sources or knowledge just a feeling.

Get over it players are picked on performance not reputation. For christ sake we are 16-0. I'm sure the entire selection committee know what they are doing.
