Good on him for winning, but seriously - I have been trying to find out why the song is popular. It isn't that good, nor is it catchy. Yes you can sing along to it but looking at the US charts and seeing which songs make the top 5 each week says a lot.

Read an article the other day that said that Kimbra wasnt his first choice collaborator, intially it was a bigger 'name' Australian singer, and that she just up and walked out of the studio mid take. Just wondering if anybody knew who it was?
Totally wrapped for Gotye and Kimbra. Gotye @ Meredith a few years back was bloody amazing. Had the whole crowd, completely unprompted, singing 'Hearts a Mess' back to him, and you could see that he was becoming really emotional and was struggling to hold it together a bit! Amazing artist.

The first time I heard it I knew it was a global hit. Found out who sung it, looked it up and was surprised it was an Aussie.

It's an A-grade pop song with A grade song writing. Not sure if he'll do anything else near as popular.

It's only a decent pop song at best. It only stands out compared to the rest of the garbage around at the moment. You only have to look at the last couple of Hottest 100s to see that. If that song was released back in the 90s it would have been lucky to make the top 50 of the Hottest 100 and wouldn't be getting all the attention that it's got now.

Lets face it, the Grammys are historically ridiculous and make every other award show look like MENSA (even the Golden Globes). The achievement is arguable. But, in saying that, Somebody that I Used to Know must be one of the best winners in the record category for some time. I dont have any issue with Gotye winning the award, just the Grammys itself.

I remember falling instantly in love with Hearts a Mess on first listen several years ago. Learnalilgivinnlovin was also a very immediate song. He does pop hooks really well imo.
