Hard to believe, but it was only a few weeks ago that we were subjected to endless speculation in the mainstream media about the controversy surrounding Governor-General Peter Hollingworth.
Day after day, there seemed to be new stories showing Hollingworth's efforts in covering up Anglican Church sex controversies; there were numerous columinists in the newspapers questioning why a religious man was G-G; there were numerous federal and state politicians suggesting that the G-G should resign from office because he was "doing damage to the integrity of the office"; there was wall-to-wall media coverage of the G-G's trip to NZ; there was concern about the controversy that could arise when the Queen arrived here.
Yet, since the CHOGM meeting concluded, the issue surrounding Hollingworth has disappeared into thin air.
This is one of the main reasons I despise the mainstream commercial media in this country so much. All too often, they cover a story to death like this one for a few weeks but, when the issues involved are yet to be resolved, they don't deem it to be newsworthy and the issue is suddenly dropped from the headlines, and the pack moves on to their next bit of sensationalist reporting (which has been the Heffernan/Kirby controversy and the Wayne Carey saga).
You're better off going to web sites like this one for your news and information then what is available in the commercial press these days.
