I was recently going through some old photos on my phone and came across a poem I wrote after the drawn grand final last year. I had meant to share it with the Pies faithful last year but I believe I was red carded at the time. Then I completely forgot after our famous victory.
Anyway, better late than never I guess, so here it is. It brings back all the feelings of nervousness, excitement, anticipation and anguish I felt during the longest week ever in footy waiting for the replay.
30th of September, how fast has it been?
It seems like just yesterday I was only 15.
Grand final back then was Dons vs Pies,
It was played in October, Dons only kicked 5.
Fast forward 20 years, a draw we have seen,
Might’ve gone either way, thank god for no Breen!
Whoever wins Saturday, the fans will all rise,
Please footy gods, let’s make it the Pies!
