Hi guys, apologise if there is some information on this within the thread I had a quick look at the first page and we all know you stop looking there ;)

I may be going early but I am starting to get funds and time off together to make the trip East if we manage to get into the grand final but I need some help. I basically am a newb when it comes to organising actually going to a football game (live 600Ks away from Perth) and am wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get tickets for the big day?

Is there some sort of non member draw or am I better off buying one of those packages from other clubs I have heard about etc..? any tips would be very much appreciated id like to have a decent idea on what to do so I don't miss out!

Cheers in advance! and please mods feel free to move this if it doesn't warrant it's own thread. :)

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm looking at around 2-3 guys going at this stage.

Do you have any mates who are members who won't be going?

As they can put their names into a ballot at the start of the finals and if West Coast makes it they will get tickets.
Think it costs like $5-10 for to put your name down, if West Coast don't make it then money is gone.

If you don't know anyone then your next best option is to get all your friends and family to get on ticketmaster when they go on sale and hope you get through.

I believe the package deals put on by the team and AFL are really expensive and you get a bit of fluff added to them that isn't really worth it (in my view).

In any case, you should book plane tickets now, pretty sure they are already getting close to $1000, so you should try and find flights for Monday/Tuesday of GF week and take a few extra days leave, plenty to do in Melbourne for that week and enjoy the buzz around the city.

I don't know if there is any other way to enter a ballot type system for non-members, but you could always sign up for a cheap membership and see if that offers some advantages for final/grand final tickets?

To be honest bodazoka your best bet will be buying package. You will get charged up the arse for it but it's probably the only way to secure a ticket.

Without a doubt the GF is the hardest event Australia wide to secure a ticket for. Even if your club makes it and you are a member there is no guarantee you will be going. Sadly the AFL don't see it as a day as for the "fans".

It's for the corporate, rich & MCC members.

I have a friend at the AFL who helps when he can. My only chance at a ticket through him this year is if two interstates clubs make it. Otherwise i will be buying a Grand final brunch/ticket.

Other suggestion for people hoping to go is to bombard the competitions that Seven, AFL and other affiliates give away leading up to the Grand Final.

Good luck.

Hi Mate, all depends on your budget I guess. I have been a few times now and the last couple fo times I always get a package deal which was airfares, premium seats at the game, hotel accomodation in the CBD and entry into the final siren event after the game which is a big event with everything laid on for you. I did it through travel and sports and that package is about 3k or was about 3k. I like it because everything is sorted and in place.
Of course of we make the GF as a member you can probably get tickets and then you need to get airfares and a hotel which will still add up to a considerable amount. Tickets to GF will be 250-$300 each, hotel will be $300 minimum per night in CBD, maybe cheaper in outer suburbs. then airfares will be expensive I would suggest, about 600 each way minimum.
Like I said it is all about what you want to spend. I like the package and am prepared to pay it, others like to sort it themselves. But everytime I have been and seen people over there who got there and thought they could find tickets once they were there only to be disappointed.
Great weekend though mate and if you have never been you will have a ball. Good luck with it mate and lets hope we are there in the big one.

Thanks for the input guys, just had a look at the ticket allocation and boy wowee!! good luck getting a ticket on the day. It really does seem that a package deal is the way to go, "general admission" is totally out the door. Even some of the different type of package deals seam to be sold out!

Think you will find that most packages are already exhausted. Pray its WCE v FREO as there may be more general public or reseve filled if clubs, MCC and reserve don't sell as quickly as say if Hawthorn were playing. I recall in 2005 that there was still general admission selling a day or two before the game cause they were interstate (if you don't count Sth Melb connection)

Find a Freo-supporting mate/relative who went early and already bought a package.

Wait for Freo to get bundled out in straight sets.

While they're heartbroken, get them to sell you their package at a discount.

More like $1100 + each way on most flights. And that will go up, not many seats available already
They will put on more flights from Perth to Melb if we make it (and even more if both Freo and us make it). But you're right, I had a few mates who paid over 2k for flights to go watch the Dockers GF.

In terms of getting tickets, as a member, does anyone know approximately how many they allow for? I've heard somewhere its approximately 20 thousand or so, so a 50-50 chance of getting a ticket if you're a fully fledged member (assuming that all 40 odd thousand members register for a ticket). Not sure if this is true or not, can anyone confirm?

Just read that for the Dockers GF, 14,000 tickets were allocated for Dockers members. They had around 18,000 register for tickets, so it went down to a ballot.

I assume this would be the same process for the Eagles should we make it.

The website says WCE has an allocation of 500 (five hundred) for members.

That's just the every club allocation. The club gets more if they make the GF, and the ballot happens before the preliminary finals (I remember entering in 2011 as I was living in Melbourne, was a member and figured what the hell).

Edit: I should clarify you enter the ballot in prelim final week, but it's only drawn if you win the PF.

I was hoping my notes would give me the jump on the masses... :(

Its worth booking a flight now as an insurance policy. Booked overnight Wednesday on grand final week, if Eagles (somehow) don't make the GF lose $70 booking fee...one-way flight was circa $670.

I booked my package at the start of the year when I had no idea we would be anywhere near the top eight, let alone a chance to finish first or second. The package included a premium ticket to the ground, a breakfast plus the centre square after the game. I booked my airfare and hotel back in January so got great prices on both. The package cost $1700, airfare with Tiger was $320 return and the hotel $450 each for my mate and me for 5 nights. So all up $2470 which I think isn't too bad and well worth every penny if the Eagles make it to the big stage. Here's hoping.

Just make sure they don't get their purple tears on the tickets. You don't want them jinxed.

Ever since I got a fulltime job I have been going, went last year, the year before. $950 for the so caled "package" which is ticket only. If you books flights, hotel and ticket before the season starts it goes to about 2k for a week there (including the $950 ticket)..

Obviously when I booked it I thought we had no hope of being there but 2k for a one week AFL holiday is pretty okay, they always have musical guests, be there for the parade, just a good week all up. Never have to worry about ballots! :)
