Grant or Boumann

I know, Grant needs a big Pre-Season and Boumann needs a couple of years to improve. I mean when they get their first games, what position will they be playing.

Boumann as the FF and Grant as a HFF

In my opinion, Boumann should start as an alernating flank. I think making him the main goalkicker in his first game is a little too much responsability for him so maybe he should start passing the ball and then kicking a bunch of goals.

Have you actually seen much of him play? He only want's to play a couple of positions and his concentration wanders.

Uh no, I don't go to Williamstown often so I don't know much about them. The only info I have is on the Bulldogs main Site, they offer 1 small paragraph.

Would Grant ever take his FF position in the future? Or would he just move to CHF?

Long term it would be hoped that Grant plays at FF with Boumann at CHF, but with modern key forwards being fairly mobile it would be hoped that both could possibly rotate through the 2 key forward posts.

What do you mean he only WANTS to play certain posistions? Aren't they grooming him for a KF position! Imo grant would be suited as a lead up forward playing deep and boumann the roaming chf. both very good prospects i think

Whilst this is true, it's not going to be an easy forward line to break into at Williamstown. Boumann may have to, and should anyway for his development, play a few games in the backline and in other positions.

I think the point OS was making that when asked to do these different roles, he doesn't put as much in.

His effort changes depending on the position he plays. When he is put into defence his efforts are up and down but at FF and even CHF he efforts and work rate improve.
You might see him differently but as far as I am concerned, even given his age, there is too big of a big gap between his best and worst football. He has enough talent but his concentration isn't great.

Watched them both play a couple of times. Grant makes it look easy and will be very good. Boumann was not in the game and always seemed half a yard behind. Not sure if the heart is in it.

Grant will be ready for a few games this year.

hey do you guys think boumann will be ready to come into the team on a permanent basis when welsh retires? from what ive seen grant should get a few games next year looks a quality prospect

If Welsh retires in 2 years then it's possible. Boumann should be able to play more games for the VFL seniors side next year before we start putting him in the AFL. He's had some very positive games in the VFL ressies and a sniff around in the seniors. By all reports he's coming along.

...Hmm... So from my guess, our main default Forward line next year is going to be:

Higgins, Hahn, Murphy
Akermanis, Welsh, Grant
(I know Gian and others go in the Forward line but they play other positions too or sit on the bench)

... I bet I'm wrong on something, Johno was the confusing part.

Murphy, Hahn, Akermanis
Johnson, Minson, Welsh

Giansiracusa and Higgins rotating through(Higgo will continue his progression in to the midfield more often)

Grant will hopefully play a handful of games and keep his spot but at the moment he's not in our best 22.

It all depends on if he has a big Pre-Season, I'd love to see him play a nice large amount of games in 09. Also, Minson should be an altering one while Welsh is the main FF, given the fact that Minson is a ruck.

Oh, also, where's Jarrod Harbrow?

What about the fact that Welsh isn't a FF?

I see Welsh in FF a lot. In the Geelong game he was playing on Matthew Scarlett in the Goalsquare.
For mine his game against Geelong was simply to keep Scarlett away from it. Playing FF in the goal square allows Scarlett less access to the ball than if he was up running around.

What about the fact that Welsh isn't a FF?

I can only think of one traditional 'full-forward' in the AFL at the moment and that's Fevola. Everyone else are quasi FF/CHF's and mid sized leading pocket/flankers.

Anyway, enough of the philosophical debate about FF's, the truth is he's the closest ready made FF we have. Unfortunately for us.

True but if you are going to use the fact that another player is technically a ruck then you'd want to at least mention someone who is technically a FF, which Welsh isn't.

On Christmas Day i sat next to one of the assistants from the Dandenong Stingrays and we ended up talking a lot about the draft process and ended up talking about Grant and Boumann.

He had a lot to do with both of them (both being from the Stingrays) and it was interesting to hear his thoughts on them. He said that Grant was a complete footy nut and that helped him in his interviews and contributed to him going so high in the draft. He also said that he thought he was still a couple of years away from being able to cope with regular AFL football.

He said on pure ability Boumann was way ahead of Grant but he probably wasnt as committed to it as Grant and that this may have held him back a bit when it came to the draft. He said that if he got his frame of mind right he could become one of the steals of that draft.

I think the majority of what he said is accurate.
Not surprisingly Grant is still a few years away from being able to establish a regular spot for him in the side. He still needs to develop physically and this will take some time.

Regarding Boumann, he has a heap of talent but as I said before in this thread, he needs to work hard in a few area's.
At 196cm and given his athleticism if he can put it all together he could very well be a bargain selection.

Could somebody please organise the adopt a player report for the doggies team so we could keep track of these players and others for the 2009 season

A bit too early to organize that - will be done around February sometime. :)
