Impossible to answer, given that atm, our best 22 is always going to be dictated by matchups, form, etc etc

Assuming a complete ignorance of things like potential, no injuries, and letting the opposition worry about matchups, imo i reckon it'd be something like-

F:Matera Wilson Sampi
HF:Chick Jakovich Jones
C:Fletcher Cousins Embley
HB: Hunter Gaspar Green
FB: Collica McIntosh Wirrpunda
R: Gardiner Kerr Judd

Int: Cox, Banfield, Morrison, Haynes

Drop Wilson and move Haynes to FF
add in Read.

as for the older players Jod, I think you can add Banfield and Chick to the getting on bracket.

Unfortunately, your maths is way off. And rookies aren't included. Plus you have to take 1 off.

Ie (Total Ages - Materas Age) / 38 - 1

ie (22.5 * 38) - 33) / (37)

And even if your list is young, our core players are much younger.

B: Hayden McPharlin Haddrill
HB: Grover Polak Woods
C: Headland Pavlich Haines
HF: Browne J. Longmuir Siegert
F: Medhurst Croad Cunningham

R: Sandilands Hasleby Schammer

Everyone on that list was 22 years of age at the start of this year, or younger. That shows how young our side is because it almost looks like our normal side.

I don't know where it said anything in the booklet that Rookies weren't included. Their names were all above the totals line so I assumed they'd be included in the calculations. I aggree with your methodology though.

The squad now is 43 players (inc 4 rookies).

So ((22.5 * 44) - 33.75)/43 = 22.24

or ((22.5 * 40) - 33.75)/ 39 = 22.21

Important or not, when talking about the age of our squad and our average games played (55 - not inc Peter Matera) compared with Freo (43), we've been able to pack more experience into a similarly aged group. I think that's a fact overlooked a lot.

No doubting the quality of Freo's young key position players, West Coast's haven't been quite as consistent yet. However we've probably had the better of the second tier players come through. IMHO we'll be really well placed should those young kpps fulfill their potential.
