This has come up a couple of times for some reason with a few guys I know.......still giving me sh1t over it as i was a big fan of one T.Wallace....was back in the days when he ruled the nightclubs in tight leather pants.
Any of you old enough to remember the game below?......... it was wet and for memory a very young James Mason torched Chris Langford..
Match stat. sheet is an intresting read enjoy

yeah i do recall that day - charlie was a legend when the ground was heavy, assumingly from his playing days in tassie. he looked slow & awkward on top of the ground, but in the heavy he was unstoppable - marked, chased, tackled, and amazingly kicked as well as he did in the dry, a task no one else could. i rated him the best wet weather big man in the game.

Yep, I'm old enough to remember and I was one of the 20,000-odd at Victoria Park that day. It was a wet one as I recall, and Charlie starred in a dour struggle against tough opposition.

He had the most awkward kicking action imaginable (hard to describe, but he sort of twisted his kicking leg as if kicking around a corner). May have lloked awkward (and painful), but his kicks were surprisingly accurate and effective. Charlie was a cult hero on the terraces of Vic Park.

i was there that day too, had no idea who this guy was that kept kicking goals when nobody else seemed capable of doing so. i think it was just his second game off hand too!

I was on the rush stand wing that day. charlie played a great game. what stood out to mr was the absolute shocker dermott had for hawthorn. it was possibly the worst game of his career.
Weather was terrible. freezing cold and wet.

We had quite a young team, No 30 yr olds and only one player over the age of 27 (Raines) and he was only 28!
As for Manson, he is quite the forgotten man, was the number one ruckman for most of our premiership year as quite an undersized ruckman.
In today's age, I doubt a 194cm ruckman who cant kick and isnt particularly great overhead would even get rookie listed.

Accurate and effective?

Charlie's kicking was woeful, remember that time he played dead so someone else could take the kick for goal. After the goal was kicked he miraculously recovered :)

yeah was there out at waverley. charlie from memory got a free on the boundary, members side fwd pocket, then fakes a back injury, walking around both hands on his back yelling in pain. trainers at his side. ron mckeown, an accurate kick, steps up to take the kick, and sure enough kicks it thru. charlie starts celebrating the fact he's put one over the umps. not a good idea charlie. :p
