All highly rated players who would be scooped up "early" by other clubs due to the GC and GWS picking up players early and outside the draft.

They are all our scholarship players, meaning we have first dibs at them

Also, Ben Kennedy and Wallace (forgotten his first name) will be available under F/S in the coming years as they are yet to be recruited to an AFL club, making them still eligible for this selection (unless the AFL has since changed the rules)

Great position to be in for the hawks in the coming years!

Yeah from what I've heard/read Stubbs sounds fantastic. Kickett too. Haven't heard much about Langford but I would love another Langford at the club.

I cant find it but Michael Johnston mentioned another name in his interview that was on the AFL website earlier

Ben Wallace could have been selected this year as a F/S and wasn't so don't expect him to be wearing the brown and gold like his leather skinned old man. Ben Kennedy is playing for Box Hill reserves if my memory serves me correctly. He's not as passionate about his footy as his older brother.

Johnny Platten's son is playing colts in SA so he might be a chance and obviously there's Will Langford who's on the scholarship program. Don't believe there's any others coming through unfortunately.

Straight from the horses mouth here (Chris), but Will was 'one of those kids who didn't look like he'd be good enough to play AFL footy - but as he's gone up in terms of the standard of competition, he's adapted to the game around him and has done really, really well'.

Plus on an unrelated note, I was told that young Lachlan Langford (14 now), is meant to be one of the best young footballers in NSW. Same age as the Roos kids (plays in the same team), but is far and away the best for his age group.

Unfortunately right now he's broken his leg I believe due to a rugby accident ...

That's the beauty of having an all conquering team - 20 odd yrs later you get the offspring!!

Pretty excited about what the HFC are doing with drafting; for the present, but especially for the future.

Good times ahead.

Phew...

I don't know anything about Adelaide Football (apparently Central Districts are 'the Dogs') so when I read that he wanted to play for the Dogs I almost spewed... Luckily he went on to say that playing for Hawthorn would be even better so that got me back to my seat!!

Remember a guy posting last year who played with Langford and said that he wasn't that much chop. Stubbs on the other hand could be something.

It's so speculative at this age. I mean Mitch Thorp was the 6th best footballer in his age group and is now playing VFL and unlikely to play AFL ever again.

I would hope that we never draft another player that's had a broken bone in the leg/foot area ever again Buddy - far too much risk, broken legs/foot are the career enders these days that knees were in the 70's & 80's.

Interesting you say that, mate - I thought broken legs were a pretty clean injury? 6 months off it completely and the bone is healed?

the Son of Rat would be great... imagine if Hawks got all those guys with the F/S rule, the team would read like the 88/89 playlist, now where's Dipper's son, Dermie's son and Dunstalls son LOL :)

i guess there are broken legs and then there are broken legs (boyle, nathan brown etc.)

heard a funny story about the rugby/afl dads in sydney. one of the footy clubs had organised an afl game involving the dads from an underage team and it included paul roos. needless to say the game wasn't for the faint hearted, bit of white line fever, middle aged men and their sporting fantasies, thugby mentality etc. one of the dads ended up with a broken leg (compound break) in the 2nd half and paul roos stormed off screaming "you guys are all f**ed" (or something along those lines).

I think a few people missed the point of the thread, it wasnt a "rated" players in the coming drafts, it was the fact we have get-out of jail options due to the new teams, players like the ones named (kennedy and wallace) who were overlooked in previous drafts will get picked up for the lack of options (a guy who would normally go late in the rookie draft may find himself being taken in the national draft)

we have possibly sewn up 5-6 of those players

I heard a rumour Jordan Moncrieff, son of former Hawk full forward Michael, may be a channce to make the Dandenong Stingray's squad in the TAC Cup this year.

Great position to be in for the hawks in the coming years!

But theres 1 thing we can only nominate 2 of them!

Bumping this thread to see if there's any updates on these players!

Dylan Stuart, Heath Caldwell, Thomas Kickett, Trent Stubbs, Will Langford....

Are all of these players certain to be future Hawks?... or can we only take two of them next year? Then the left over ones are up for grabs by opposition teams? or do they stay on our Scholarship program...

Are there any other players who are on the Scholarship program that are looked at being recruited by us in the future years to come?... I remember reading we signed some 14 year olds but i can't seem to find the threads.. New Zealand kid?

Any info is much appreciated. Hopefully this thread can cheer a few of us up with a bit of light at the end of the tunnel :)

Is there somewhere that has the full list of the players on the Hawthorn Scholarship program? I thought there was up to 16 kids on the list...?

My understanding of the drafting is we have till they turn 18 to pick them up? 2 from the scholarship and 2 under the father son rule each year? Then they are up for grabs for any team...

Here's two more of the kids.. Jackson Dwyer & Jack Mahoney
