There's a greater reward from diving for forwards and less downside.

A forward dives and usually ends up with a shot at goal if he successfully cons the umpire. If he misses out maybe the defender clears the ball or the ball goes out of bounds / gets tied up for a ball-up.

A defender potentailly concedes a goal if he loses his feet and goes to ground, all in order to get a free kick from inside his defensive 50. For that reason you don't often see mids staging for free kicks in their back half either

Add to that the ridiculous current interpretation of the hands in the back rule, and you have what we see today.
And now Vlad is trying to legislate against his own disaster.

You have a complete inability to read anything even just a little complex I would suggest. You never even commented on my Farmer post. And I enjoy my stoushes with gravy and George. Mainly because they are about football things. Your range is much more limited.

Man, he used to drive me insane with his staging, diving and whinging.
Something that MM seems to have driven out of him.
I can't help but wonder if Harvey, given the time and the authority, would/could have done the same.

there is no doubt, i am not a medhurst fan. never have been, never will be.... i was probably one of the few people who were stoked when he left. just an arrogant twat who didnt believe he should have to work for his position in the team. the thing tht annoyed me even more than his diving was his constant arguing with the umpires over the man on the mark, i almost got ejected once because we were down against essendon i think it was, and medhurst took a mark and with not much time left was arguing about the man on the mark, i ended up spitting the chewy and shouting out something like "just have a shot and get on with it you little prick or i'll jump the fence and do it for you" i have never seen a dockers player that annoyed me more than him.... anyhow his career is littered with examples of him acting like a flog, and his diving antics are just another reason for me to dislike him
