NEW Richmond midfielder Shaun Grigg plans to hurt opposition sides with his left foot after constant criticism of his disposal at Carlton.
The Blues swapped Grigg for Tiger forward Andrew Collins during trade week and he is already feeling at home at Punt Rd.
Speaking for the first time about his move to Richmond, Grigg said he was desperate for more opportunities after waiting until Round 14 to crack Carlton's side this year.
Known as a tough inside player whose ability to win the hard ball compensates for his lack of polish, the 22-year-old is keen to make his left foot a weapon.

Hopefully he manages to do just that and not hurt us.

It'll be interesting whether Grigg is used as an inside or an outside player. Seems Richmond are basically looking for the Tuck upgrade (similar height, concedes some strength, but with better endurance and disposal), tho there seemed consensus here before that he was to be an outside mid / wing.
We are definitely building a team that can swap players positions that require hard running, with strength on the inside work. Which irregardless of the new interchange rule, is a good thing.

I always get concerned when players come out in the media and spruik this stuff. Yep it's what we ultimately want him to do, but right now, i'd just like a heads down arse up approach. Stay off media st, there will be enough time for that come round one.

It would be funny if a player came out and said:

'Yeah, I play AFL footy for a job - I wish I was smart enough to be a teacher or doctor. I had a go at my previous club, but they didn't want me any more, so I grabbed the first job that came calling. I'll probably do my best - can't say I'm a fan of pre-season training however. I'll do the minumum to get through - I really can't do anything else and get paid at this level, so i guess I'll just keep going until I get the final cut. Hopefully by then I'll have put a bit away and be well set up financially and I can go and do something I really want to do'.

The media have been asking for an article with him since he was traded, its not like he said "pick me pick me".

And that's fine. But after a couple of decades of false starts, big name recruits and SFA achieved, i'm just as happy to see our players out of the media (until the lead up till next season), and only club releases put out there. I would just hate to see any undue pressure put on any of the players as a result of something that can be a harmless comment, and get turned around on them and be a source of opposition ridacule (yeah i know i spelt that wrong). So good on him for doing the right thing by the club and media, but me personally, i'd just rather a low key preparation - and let the results do the talking.

Bit of a nothing article. Hope his left hoof doesn't become the subject of (further) scorn.

He gets it out, and gives it. And his body is significant. Potentially an important player.

His disposal has been criticised sinse he was playing u18s. I would have thought he would have taken offence alot earlier and done something about it.

Fair enough from a football perspective but the RFC not only needs the exposure it would be wrong of it to deny the fans some positive spin over the preseason. I'm stoked we got him and I want to hear as much spin as possible. The coaches and players no it's spin,we know its spin but i really only get the newspaper to read this stuff so...

I've watched Grigg play roughly 20 times and at no time have I ever thought he was a skill less hack or an ordinary kick.

He'll be awsome for us and finish top 6 in our b&f next year. Although I wish Andy well this will be a great trade.

I know, but you want to know something, stick with this site, not the papers. Far more info available. I just feel not all exposure is going to be good exposure in the long run. We haven't put runs on the board for a long time, and after a while it becomes hollow and meaningless.

I have seen most of his career games, the only time he seemed to bomb was when bursting thru the mid and maybe a tired bomb to about 40 metres out, it does tend to helicopter but was getting better as the years went on, If he averaged 22 possies a game this year 18 of them would have been good!

I think u have picked up a quality hard mid, great size, my only question on him has ever been heart. good luck! I do believe he will finish top 5 b&f for you
