iF they were both playing at their best. Grimes>Batch. And with Astbury back in the side those two would be competing for a position. Maybe Newman retiring lets both play, but we need a great disposer back there and Batch aint it, Grimes maybe not either, which is why we can't carry both at once and attack effectively.

I dunno Liv, I reckon Batch has a pretty sweet left hoof when on song. Perfect for the sweeper role in the future, but seems to playing much more accountable football now than in the past. Which is all part of the learning process I spose.

I'm pretty happy with our back 6 atm, and with Astbury, Elton and Darrou in the wings, depth isn't too bad either.

Regardless of how you rate our current defenders, anyone who thinks we don't require some more depth in our backline -particularly KPD's- is a delusional fool who probably has "locked and loaded' tatooed above their groin, a "cherry ripe " tramp stamp and one of those "I was there when we were shit" t-shirts from 2007 hanging in their wardrobe.:drunk::thumbsu::oops:
Dunno about that. Our back six is our strong point for mine, and if Astbury fires again next year it will be even stronger.
It's our forward setup where we need more depth and output from our KPP's if we're going to challenge.

Odd post, astbury was showing plenty prior to inj, good old fashioned style chb , love the contest, and was using the pill to good effect, mid season I was worried about where grimes was at, every week since he s improved inch by inch and is now impacting games with the defensive role he plays. Is most definitely coming good and another pre season under the belt will have him cherry ripe for 2015

Lowest scoring season in 40 years so that needs to be taken into account.

Good point

Round 21, 2013 – 13 Wins 7 Losses, 1887 points For (271.261), 1647 points Against (237.225) Ranked 4th
Round 21, 2014 – 10 Wins 10 Losses, 1721 points For (249.227), 1647 points Against (237.225) Ranked 9th

We've been pretty much the same 'points against' as last season through most rounds.
We're 166 'points for' behind last season's Rd21 ranked 12th, although we were only ranked 11th last season.

So I guess you could conclude both areas are down.

I meant to write that if Astbury fires again we're good for KPD's. Yep, Astbury was having a breakout year and I was loving it. Him and Rance firing together with the support cast we've got, including Grimes has me drooling for next year.

But I really reckon our lack of a consistent quality KPF is the problem.

I rate Grimes, he lost a bit of confidence this year after all his injuries but I've seen enough quality in him to know that he's good enough and he's only going to improve. He's got a great footy brain and he's actually a very good disposer of the ball when in good form. Plus he seems like a good bloke and can be relied upon in tough situations. He's a good teammate for Rance I think and can play on smalls too.

Fingers crossed he gets a full pre-season next year.

I'd be drafting a key forward with r1 selection to go with Mcbean as the next frontier

Bahahaha some people are nuts!! Few bad games!! Dud delist, one year left to prove it bla bla.....after a good game, Ohh great, valuable 3rd tall, knew you had it in you.....LOL what!!

Grimes has shown enough over the few years he's been with us to warrant continued support so this thread was silly to begin with....but having said that...playing a good game against St Kilda on the weekend doesn't mean he is a guaranteed best 22 fixture for the next 10 years either!! lol

Literally no one has said that.

Best offensive game since the St.Kilda game last time we played them. Given the Swans forwards I doubt we'll see a lot of it next week.
